Looking to get some of the decoction flavor without having to deal with the mess that entails doing a decoction.

Recipe is
5.5 gallons

9 lbs Pilsner (Weyermann) (2.0 SRM) Grain 92.31 %
8.0 oz Wheat, Flaked (2.0 SRM) Grain 5.13 %
4.0 oz Melanoidin (Weyermann) (27.0 SRM) Grain 2.56 %
1.25 oz Hallertauer Hersbrucker [4.80 %] (90 min) (First Wort Hop) Hops 25.0 IBU
1 Pkgs German Ale/Kolsch (White Labs #WLP029) Yeast-Ale w/ starter

I just made a very similar recipe I think I used too much melanoidin, 4oz sounds good for a 5 gal batch. The wort tastes awesome but I over shot the color I was looking for slightly.

10gal batch 14 plato, 1.060 OG
16lbs of Pilsner Weyermann
2lbs of Carafoam Weyermann
1lb of Melanoidin
Perle 2oz (6.5%) 60min
sterling 1oz (7.1%) 30min
Sterling 2oz (7.1%) 0 min
Wyeast Kolsch II yeast 2575
I am a brewer at Rogue so I probably over hopped a little.

I also used some Munich in my recipe, forgot to put that in the recipe. 3lbs. I used Weyermann Melanoidin as well.
