Echoing tosh
This is excellent

I totally forgot to buy Märzens this year :(. Wanted to try the Sierra Nevada one but didn't see it at the shop. I'm brewing my own on Wednesday but it won't be ready for 8 weeks so... Thanksgivingfest I guess?

Has anyone noticed a trend in their local area (for the local examples, not the classics from Germany) of sweeter Marzen this year?

A number of the new (to me at least) examles I've had this year have finished a noticeable amount sweeter, which makes for a beer that can certainly be tasty, but I'm less inclined to drink a number of them in a sitting.

Or is that just a metro Chicagoland thing?

I suck at pulling out flavours, and distingushing featuresin beer, but local ones I have enjoyed are perhaps not something I am looking to down ‘one over the eight’ in a night.

I am pretty sure I could do 12+ Ayinger in a night, not sure on others

Have you been buying the marshmallow Oktoberfest replicale variants?

Honestly, aside from ******* with Pilsner, I'm not sure anything could bum me out more in the local beer scene these days. Haven't grabbed the case of New Glarus I typically drink ever year yet, but a number of the locals are either sweeter (Half Acre Lagertown) or more hop forward (Great Lakes) than I remember in years past.

Can someone with a TB stein fill that bitch and take a pic for me so I can use it for a TalkBeer FB post? Yes, I will credit you for providing the pic. Mine broke, please?

Maybe do it with some leaves, or gourds or something festive as ****.

Release some glasses and people could help.

Peckerhead.

MikeJones posted one there.

No gourds - just photoshop some in.

Spaten-Franziskaner-Bräu Ur-Märzen

Went for a long lunch to visit a buddy (@weatherdog) at the Cellar Door in Downers Grove, IL and had a couple pours of the above deliciousness with a hearty lunch (grilled cheese with aged Irish cheddar, Bentons bacon and jalapeno jelly). Toasty, nutty, malt forward without an obvious sweetness, finishes balanced with a crisp well carbonated mouthfeel. Just about everything I want in the style, and in a glass that just begs for a second pour.

Cheers!
