Anyone check out Black Flag in Columbia yet?

http://blackflagbrewingco.com/

Haven't heard much yet. Still shocked that they chose that name. I guess if they stay small they might escape the cease and desist?

Who else has Black Flag trademarked or copyrighted? I've heard the controversy surrounding the name choice, just not sure why.

I can see an employee or someone accidentally saying black "***" though. That could be room for some embarrassment.

Edit: I've discovered another blacklisted TB word.

Also a fairly litigious band...

I've had a few of their beers. Definitely worth checking out

What are the best restaurants around Ocean City/Berlin? Coming down next week for a wedding and Berlin, and making a long week out of it and staying in Ocean City. Most of the places I've come across look like generic taco stands or Joe's Crab Shack style places, and am looking for the best to go to. Is On the Bay Seafood any good? Also, is Fager's Island still a club at night time? I haven't been down in a few years.

Yes to Fagers, at least on the weekend.

Regarding restaurants depends on what your looking for food and price point wise but my recommendations would be liquid assets, hooked, tequila mockingbird, and OC wasabi. For seafood, have heard the crab bag is good, but I have not been there. Also never been to on the bay seafood, but the place always looks busy during the summer when I've been past it.

Thanks for the response. Food and price point aren't factors here, as my wife and I are open for anything. I think we are going to do Hooked for dinner the first night there. Maybe a place called Fins Ale House and Raw Bar for lunch on Friday and then either Tequila Mockingbird, Mother's Cantina, or On the Bay Seafood for dinner, depending on what kind of mood we are in.

Really looking forward to this trip. About 25 of us are making the trek down from Pittsburgh for a wedding of a long time high school friend. He lives in DC now and is marrying a girl who is from Berlin. Never heard of Burley Oak until I was seeing what to do (haven't been to OC in 4 or so years), so definitely plan on checking that out as well.

You will not be disappointed with burley oak. They've been putting out killer beers recently.

Yeah, I've been following them on social media pretty closely over the past few weeks and the stuff they've been putting out looks awesome.

Anyone in for Simpsons trivia at Jailbreak 7/26? Looking to put together a dream team.

Man, I wish I lived closer. I'm up there with anyone when it comes to S1-S8. I would need other teammates to carry me if the questions were on S9 and on, since I refuse to acknowledge their existence.

I don't live close and I'm still being summoned by brees6221 to take a trip.

So you should go. I'm considering it.

I won this giveaway, based on the Simpsons: https://www.talkbeer.com/community/threads/iso-kbbs-b3-ft-list-points.39175/

I'm hoping to do my own Simpsons-related giveaway later this month or early next month if I can grab a decent local beer or three. Keep an eye out.

That's awesome. And that is an excellent choice for favorite episode. So, so good.

I'm skeptical about the trivia since there are few details. If it said "90s trivia" at least I'd know I could do it. But also since you're trying to beat the brewers, are they coming up with the questions? Cause that would be weird too. I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS!

7/18 Facebook post from Lures Bar and Grill; Crownsville, MD

A little over a year ago, we announced that we were going to stop carrying domestic bottles, like Budweiser and Miller at Lures. The reason behind it was simple — to live up to the mission we set for ourselves almost nine years ago:

Drink good beer.

This year, we will be taking this a step further, by discontinuing the sale of products that come through companies owned by Anheuser-Busch. This decision was not made lightly, but rather after much discussion and deliberation, with our mission at the forefront of our mind.

In today’s climate, where the predatory business practices of Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev) and their subsidiaries have become commonplace, it is no longer enough for us to sit on the sidelines as passive consumers. If we want to continue to share good beer with you, we also need to do our part as a member of the beer community to support it.

We need to stand up against businesses that shut independent craft brewers out of critical hop contracts and erode access to basic materials.

We need to say no to their shameless and blatant hypocrisy, as they insult craft beer drinkers who simply seek a quality, hand-crafted product through their advertising one day, only to buy up another beloved craft brewery the next:

Most of all, while we will never begrudge another small business for being successful enough to be sold (we’re a family-run business ourselves), we can't ignore the fact that AB InBev and its affiliates engage in unfair strategies and tactics to protect their bottom line.

For example, it wasn't long ago that AB InBev was under investigation regarding wholesaler incentives to prioritize their in-house macro labels over smaller craft brands. Often those craft brewers were left with no meaningful recourse available to protect themselves due to laws that favor distributors. http://www.reuters.com/article/us-a-b-i-craftbeers-probe-exclusive-idUSKCN0YG0EG

In all of these cases, it’s the consumers that lose out on choice and the little guys we want to see flourish who end up suffering.

We know this is a big change, but it’s one that we feel is necessary. If we want to continue to drink good beer, we need to be part of the solution, fostering an environment that supports industry fairness and your right to choice.

It is no longer possible to do one without the other.

Anyone going to get some beers from the next RAR release? I really liked Stunt Cock when I had it on draft. And - surprisingly - I really enjoyed the IPA they did with Finback (waffle cones, vanilla beans). So I feel like Pulpsicle would be right up my alley.

I might try and make it out there. I'll be staying in Bethany Beach so a bit of a drive... worth it? How do the releases work? I see tickets go on sale this Friday and it looks like there is a pick-up window. Do you have to pay for the beers upfront when you buy the tickets? Anything else to know?

Personally, it wouldn't be worth a drive from Bethany to RAR, but that's just me. If you're on a week-long vacation and have a day to kill? Why not I guess.

When you see the tickets on sale, you purchase the quantity you want up front. Then, you can pick them up anytime during normal business hours on Saturday or Sunday. I typically go on Sundays when they open, because it's dead and I hate people.

Thanks for the info! I'll be much closer to Burley Oak, maybe I'll just stick with that. Though I will be staying with my wife's extended family so maybe a road trip to RAR is in order ;). Anything else worth checking out in the area?

Cambridge, MD is an odd place. It has its charm though. There are some restaurants that I would recommend if you make your way out there, but nothing worth going out of your way for.

Any goings on in Baltimore this weekend? In town for concerts tomorrow/Saturday (Ottobar/Rams Head)

A while back I mentioned in another thread my dad was going to be working on buildout for a brewery on Kent Island and I was looking forward to folks shitting on their beer (sarcasm, of course) when they open. If anyone in the area is interested in watching the progress on FB, tanks are in and floors are poured:

I work ~1 mile from this place. The guys opening the place used to own a Homebrew store that could've been great (had they not had poor customer service). I'm skeptical that they will produce good beer, but I hope they find some success and figure out their system quickly. Not too many local options in my neck of the woods.

I never tried the beer the couple of times I was in the homebrew shop, but I always marveled at the selection compared to places here. I am hoping it does well because, well, that is now where I will be every time I visit since it’s the family spot (not related to the homebrew shop guys, but my understanding is the space will include an office when finished for my brother-in-law’s company when finished). Anyway, maybe sometime after open we can meet up when I am in town.
