Hey- I'm doing an IPA tomorrow and I have a pound of the Mandarina hops. This is a 10 gallon batch, and I love juicy IPAs. My plan was to pair these with Amarillo or Mosaic or both. I have Citra too. my plan is to do two total pounds of hops on brew day.

I want the orangey flavor. However, I have heard this hop is subtle. If you have used these hops, I am wondering what you've found the best timing to be to get that orangey flavor and aroma. I plain to bitter with a small dose of warrior for 60 minutes. Nothing else will be added until 5 minutes are left and then the hop-stand and dry hops. kinda like a NEIPA thing.
Thanks for your feedback.

They are nice hops, but I think they seem to be subtle over there. I had fairly fresh ones here and they were lovely and very characteristic. I'd use 3/4 Mandarina to 1/8 of each Amarillo and Citra. It should all sit fairly comfortably in that orange / citrus family. I paired them with El Dorado and that went well. I've had them in a few different commercial beers but I don't think they go well with anything involving pine / resin / grapefruit. They do pair well with floral / blackcurrant / tropical fruit.

Welp, I ended up bittering with .25 oz of warrior at 60, 7oz Amarillo at 5, 6.5 oz Amarillo, 8oz mosaic, 16 oz mandarina at 170 hop stand. I cant find anymore mandarina (only 2 oz left at rite brew, which I ordered), so the dry hops will be mosaic, Amarillo and the minimal mandarina. I haven't figured out the schedule yet.
I split the 10 gallon batch in two, and fermented one with omega west coast and the other with imperial juice. the water profile was balanced with Ca:141, Cl:184 and So4:174. I a hoping the west coast will be nice and dry while the omega will be more like NEIPA. so this is an experiment in the yeast as well as the hops.
my OG was 1.072.
Ill report back.....
brew on :mug:

How'd this turn out? I'm thinking of making a NEIPA with Mandarina as well

Great, thanks! I really dig Mand. hops so that's good news. I was thinking of one with Mand., Citra, and El Dorado

Hey,
So it turned out well. I split the batch into two 5-gallon batches. One was fermented with Juice, the other.... (I think) 1056. The Juice one is just that. Juice. However I thing there is more orange flavor with the 1056. I ended up using Amarillo and Mosaic, along with a healthy dose of the Manderina.

I would do it, and let us know how it turned out...
