Hi Brewers,

we are a small design company in New Zealand who manufacture the 'Malt Mechanics' range of Conical Fermenters, a high-quality HDPE conical fermenter in both 30L and 60L volumes. You can find more info on our website http://www.maltmechanics.com/ and facebook page http://facebook.com/MaltMechanics/ and company website www.indemic.co.nz

We have not yet had our product in the USA but have been selling in NZ/Australia for the last 12 months. Late last year we embarked on a redesign to incorporate sanitary fittings into the design and have decided to undertake a global launch of the new product via Kickstarter. We will be launching the campaign this week (Wednesday NZ time, Tuesday USA time) and shipping direct to brewers in the USA, Canada, Australia, Europe and New Zealand (possibly other countries if demand dictates). Thereafter we will be hoping to strike up distribution agreements with retailers and wholesalers in these countries

Please check out our website and social media (Instagram also - our social media accounts have a bit more detail than our website at this stage) , we are looking forward to bringing fantastic, full-featured, affordable home-brewing gear to the masses. If you have any questions please ask, we look forward to your support!! See the pic attached also for our two models.

Thanks, Nick

Nice to see more options, but just having some triclamp ports doesn't make the fittings "sanitary". They still have threads, which are NOT sanitary. I'd have the same critique about ball valves vs. butterfly valves.

True tri-clamp fittings that aren't converted to / from threads and that use butterfly valves would be "sanitary".

Thanks Adam, we totally agree with you actually. We are offering this product as a platform for brewers, if they wish to upgrade to butterfly valves and the like then they have the piece of kit that enables them to do that. Almost every entry-level conical with tri-clamps has threaded fittings, which enables manufacturers like ourselves to bring product to the market competitively. Personally, having used our previous rendition with purely threaded fittings, sanitation, infections and the like have never been an issue. This largely comes down to the brewers own regime. Thanks for your comment, cheers

Looks like a great product at a reasonable price (even with shipping to the UK).

Do you have the dimensions for the actual conical element - I'd need to remove/ modify the legs I think to fit into my fermentation chamber. If it fits I'm severely tempted.

Hey All, thanks to the American backers we are getting on board, it really means a lot. Please go check it out if you havent already! Cheers

Sorry, for our US backers we noticed a small error - we had our volume as listed at 14 gallons, rather than the 16 gallons it actually is. Sorry for any inconvenience

Thanks Sab, they are awesome!! Get involved, only 8 days to go on Kickstarter, great response from you folks in the States

Hi all, we are in our last 4 days now, we need a big push to get this across the line so please jump on board and spread the word!! Cheers!

I decided to back this one. Looks like a very well made fermenter, and I've been itching for a conical anyway.

There's a few hours left to jump in on this one; check it out!

I like the idea of these because of the small footprint they take up. I haven't found a 15-20 gal plastic conical that isn't 20"+ wide. I currently use vittles vault's and they are 14" wide, and I like them, but they are a pain to harvest yeast off of. This is definitely something I want, as long as the quality is decent.

Hey MM, since the Kickstarter is over, would you please consider opening up for pre-orders? Nothing is available on the website other than updates and info.

You end up getting one of these units?

Yes, a long time ago. Works pretty well, but the fittings that came with mine (standard ball valves) were somewhat junky, and I replaced them with a butterfly dump valve and a sample port setup for racking. Don't use it much these days, as I moved onto a pressure capable fermenter.

does it hold any pressure at all? enough just to transfer to keg, like 1-2-3 psi?

I used to push with 1-2 psi from it, but it starts to audibly leak pressure even slightly above 2psi.

huh. i guess thatd be enough to transfer, which is all i really need.

this guy seems to have had better luck. although no guarantees it wouldnt slow leak back down to 1-2psi

That's a different setup than mine has, also it doesn't have the other fittings attached on the lower part. The lid on mine is big, like 11" or so in diameter, held on with perimeter clamps and sealed with a silicone ring.

Interesting. The ss lids seem to be the current model/design. Maybe that was a prototype or something.
