The Domras Cup Mead Competition is planning a full competition this year with an entry limit of 250 in our 25th year. The entry window has just opened and we are also making a call for all the judge and steward support we can muster. In the new age we are living, we will still try to keep social distancing in mind with much of the after-party fun planned for outdoors.

Entries are $10 each with a limit of 3 entries per entrant.

This year’s event will again be at the Wetland Center at J. F. Gregory Park in Richmond Hill, GA. We will also hold our epic post-comp oyster roast/low country boil, and of course lots of mead to judge. Other than the actual judging, we will plan to have most of the festivities take place outside to allow for maximum space for volunteers. Please pass this on to any fellow mead lovers.

25th Annual Domras Cup Mead Competition Call for Judges
  • Competition Date: Saturday, February 5, 2022
  • Judging begins at 9 a.m.
  • Post-party ~ 2 p.m.
Why join us to judge/steward?
We can use certified judges and mead aficionados for judging and stewarding. We have a dozen local certified mead judges, but always need help. Each volunteer will get an etched Domras wine tasting glass or some other local swag to take home. Breakfast will be available before we start and snacks in between. Our goal, as usual, is to complete judging in one round on Saturday. Immediately following BOS judging, we hold our epic post-party low country boil/oyster roast that is an event not to be missed. So, if interested in helping to judge or steward, please sign up on the registration page and come join us. For more information and to register to judge/steward, please visit the SBL website at Domras Cup. Look in the gray bar at the top of the page for “Register” and click to register as a judge or a steward.

We will also plan hold preliminary judging rounds, as needed, on Sundays, January 22 & 29, and potentially Friday February 3, as needed. If you are in the area and can help, please plan to sign up on the registration page for those days as well.

Back again this year is our beer “beauty pageant” club-only competition for charity. Member kegs will be set up outside in the BBQ area to sample. After tasting, drop a $1 (or $5 or $10) in the bag for your favorite beer(s) of choice. The winning brewer/money-getter gets bragging rights for the year, but all the funds raised will go to a local charity, our real winner. This year, we have selected proceeds to go to the Ronald McDonald House of the Coastal Empire. If you can bring some dollars with you that will be great. We will also plan to have change for folks as well and a Square account so you can purchase tickets e-style.

While no longer under COVID conditions/rules, note we will have extra cleaning supplies and sanitizers available for the event and as stated plan to hold much of the non-judging activities outside. Please keep in mind that there are inherent risks you assume per O.C.G.A., Sec. 51-16-3. We will update volunteers if there are any changes to the policies.

Thanks and Cheers!
