Just wondering if anyone has ever tried this and if it turned out good and what kind of malts they used, I have been giving it much thought and I like the idea. Thoughts anyone?

I've used maltodextrin. I think if you used malt it would taste too worty.

hmm, how was the body? was it thick and creamy? I've also thought of using carapils malt too, I've heard it helps head retention in beer so why not for Root Beer?

Are you talking about a hard rootbeer with alcohol? If so, there is this thread

https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f12/hard-root-beer-recipe-416406/

I gave it a try with 50% light DME and 50% dark DME, turned out pretty good. I let it age for a while as the rootbeer extract was too overpowering for my tastes at first.

I do plan to make an alcoholic root beer one day but no I was talking about regular Root Beer soda. Thanks for the link though, I'll check it out
