I am relatively new to homebrewing and have about 8 batches under my belt. I've been trying to come up with my own recipes and wanted to something different. I recently got a hold of some Kohatu and Magnum hops and wanted to try them out with what I had laying around to come up with a different IPA.
6# LME Light
2# DME Light
0.5# Honey Malt (steeped)
1# Gold Naked Oats (steeped)
1.0oz Mangum 60min
0.5 Citra 10min
0.5 Kohatu 10min
0.5 Citra 5min
0.5 Kohatu 5min
1.0 Citra 1min
1.0 Kahatu 1min
dry hop for 5 days with 1oz each Citra and Kohatu.
Safale s-04
Brewtoad tells me it will be a OG of 1.062 with 64 IBU and 5.6% abv.
For those unfamiliar with Kohatu hops, the description from Farmhouse Brewing is "This is a big aroma hop with intense floral characters of pine needles and tropical fruit. Trial brews brewed with this hop were only moderately hoped and displayed great quality of bitterness and well rounded fruity hop characters."
I'm trying to put together a nice citrusy and fruity IPA that is sessionable. In my noob eyes it looks good on paper. What do you think?
I also have some Cascade, Chinook and Ahtanum hops laying around. Do you think adding any of these could improve the recipe, or do you have any other suggestions?
