i have been wondering about this since i brewed on monday.
from palmers on-line einbock recipe
5 lbs 2 row
5 lbs munich
1 lb crystal(i used carastan)

due to collecting too much wort and lower than expected efficiency i ended up with 25 litres of 1.044 wort instead of 1.064.
i was pondering boiling up a couple of pounds of dme and adding that to up the gravity. or should i just leave it alone?

thoughts???

Go for it. I don't think it's a perfect fix, as you will miss out on some things that should come from the mash, but it's something to do.

You can also leave it alone and see what you get.

I'd vote to add DME. It could of been some kind of Octoberfest, but 1.044 is too low. Also depending on your mash schedule could be not very much fermentable. So, just add DME at least to the level of 1.052.

fyi - boiled up 1 1/2 lbs dme and added it after cooling.
according to beer tools this should get me to 1.054 and a more normal starting point for this style of beer
