Frozen dew at the heated bays. Wearing off old the rust and callouses. Replacing with new callouses. More of burning brush season than golf. Oddly January wasn't too bad for limited courses. March isn't complying. I think Newport RI has a couple of courses open but the wind off the Atlantic in March hurts. There's 300 year old oaks bent 45° from centuries of the same wind

Wow I would have thought the snow was gone by March.
March is the worse time in New England. I always say just when you think winter's over we have one more big storm. Itll go from 70° one day to a foot of snow the next as the jet stream gets readjusted.

Aaaand I get tweets from St Andrews and they're having that heat wave :-/

snow here, sucks. That looks so nice passedpawn in juxtaposition tothe snow. Also looks like a pretty good swing.

That's my oldest - he is a terrific golfer. I wish I had a video of the ball landing about 5 feet from the pin - it was a beauty. If you look closely, there's a small gator on the edge of the water near that green.

It's not in the dirt. It's in the snow.

Usually I practice on Saturdays. Beautiful day yesterday. Mid 40's and blinding sun. Both decks were two deep waiting to hit. I turned immediately around and left knowing we were getting 6" of snow during the night. 30° and rain for the past 4 hours. Bad weather makes for easy practice.

Headed south! Below the frost line. Newport National. Links style golf course. 50's water temp breaks to 40 in Narragansett Bay in the distance. The most difficult thing about this course is the 20-30mph steady winds. Great old 400 year old New England stone walls.

Birdied the first hole after not hitting a course in 3 months!

That looks like a fun course. I'd like to play a legit links course some day. Tomorrow I'm playing at our local Dunedin Golf Club course.

I had a GREAT round at Dunedin Golf Club yesterday. Man, after a round like that I just want to go right back out the next day.

We have friends who retired into a golf course home at the local country club. They play several times a week. I'd like to do that.
Just did a fly over tour. Appears a straight ball or the ability to control flight direction is necessary. Jimmy Clay, what I played, is similar but opens up at many spots. And yes, took out driver 3x..that was enough! 5W was straight as an arrow for me. Par'ed a few holes but short game was awful as expected not playing for 8 months. You play tips?

I play whites. I don't have the distance with my driver for the blues.

I'm going to Valspar on Friday to see the boys who can REALLY drive it. That Innisbrook course is about 15 minutes from my house.
Have fun. That's a challenging course.

The most important thing to look at with tee selection is slope and rating. Basically slope is how difficult the tee is and rating is in relationship to par.

I played it (one of the courses at Innisbrook) a few months ago. It was really nice - fairways were like carpet. Greens were perfect. With respect to "challenging", my lack of natural ability is always the long pole in the tent.

Yeah right, you are super talented. To shoot lower scores you find ways to shave strokes. For example. I putt from off greens and out of bunkers when I can. My buddy uses a 56 degree from one inch off. Sure he's hit a few good ones, but not very often. I putt.

Hit them good the other day. Started working a cut again. I might try and stick with it. Trading some distance loss for knowing which way it's gonna go. I think that's what made Jack so good. I've heard him talk about it. he always knew it was going to go left to right. A miss hit the left edge of the green or fairway and a good shot was money. Either way he was well off.

I see too many people that shouldn't be on the tips. Conversely my buddy and I should but we don't because we just wanna have fun. I see people getting somewhat defeated. They are on the tips And hit the ball about 230 yards, hmm.

So it was late the other day And these 2 fools were holding us up for 5 straight holes at twilight. And at that time in night I'm in no mood to phuket around. On the 5th hole we walked up to the tee Box just as they were walking off with the whole course open. And I was like dude we're playing through. Anyways I think my buddy felt I was being aggressive. But I mean come on seriously walking off the tee Box as we were walking up to it for the 3rd time it on A open course. By the time we got to 9 they were 2 holes or more behind us. What happened to letting people play through. Rounds really need to be sped up. guess what they were on the tips of course.

I play whites, but one of my goals this year is to move back to blues. My drives, on a good day, are 220. More like 200 on avg, so I play whites. Plus I'm getting old :)

Joined a club this month! Since I've been working in Houston so much, and I only go home every 2-3 weeks, I play a lot of golf in here. There is a golf club around the corner from my apartment and I finally figured, "what the hell?" So I joined South Shore Golf Club in League City. It's a Club Corp course and also includes Magnolia Creek in League City. Both clubs have three 9 hole courses and Mag Creek is Links style. Haven't played Mag Creek yet, but I've played South Shore several times in the last week. The time change has been awesome and I have played 9 after work every day this week. And since it's a Club Corp course, I have access to numerous other courses around the world. Not that I'll ever use them, but still....When I go home, there are a couple really nice Club Corp course that I will be able to access. Hoping the unlimited access to playing will get my game back on track.

Long drives and nailing the green from 170 is great but what always kept me interested is the short game like 50yrds and in. When I was REALLY practicing I'd like try 3 or 4 strategies from 10yrds off the green; putter, 56deg, 5w, and 8i. Found each one has a place depending on the lay and hole location. I'd do this for hours on end. Theres a 4 hole junior course, believe me not that easy, at a public golf complex (1 course from my last picture) here in town for $5 all day. Has nice practice sand traps and green also. There's a 95yrd hole downhill with the wind in the summer and green is wide but not deep. About 1 of 10 balls will stay on, ha! If I'm out there alone, from tee1 to hole3 is over 300yrds so can sneek in a driver shot..[emoji39]

Can't argue the 6yd year to year increase after Pro v1 was introduced but factors like computer analysis of swings, modern athletic training techniques (as mentioned), and costume fit clubs has to play a major role in the ever increasing distance I'd imagine.

Played the local Countryside Country Club today. Perfect day for golf, and I must brag and say I've never had such drives. I'm just loading them up and letting they rip and amazingly they are going right where I want them to. Might go out and play same course tomorrow :)

You really want to go back so soon and give the course a chance to show you that today was a fluke, and give you a dose of humility, rather than bask in the glory for a few days?

Brew on :mug:
