Grips done. Took me about 1.5 hrs, and that was with some failures, so not bad. Salient points:

  • Don't try to push them on. I had 3 successes and 3 failures, where it went halfway down, stuck, and wouldn't budge. Cut those off and re-did. Switched to air and that was MONEY -finished the rest with ease.
  • Hook blade in boxcutter, FTW. Old grips are off in about 30s with it.

Smooth sailing after I changed to air. I have a triggered nozzle attachment for my compressor. I set the air to about 10psi and a few bursts and it was on. It's probably possible to 'splode a grip, so be careful to start with the pressure low and increase it to allow you to burst it onto the shaft. Super easy when it's dialed in.

When I started, I attempted to just use my hands to push the grips down. It kinda works, but holding/pushing the grip tight, which is what you must do, works against you, because it doesn't want to slide easily, even with copious amts of mineral spirits applied. Compressed air, shot into the hole a the end of the grip, works awesome.

What the hell is that growing on your old grips. I don't think I'd touch my clubs if they looked like that.

Haha, it's not alive. There is a fabric woven into the Winn Dri-Tac grips I had. In the last 6 months, the rubber has completley dried out and become powder, exposing the fabric (which then frays easily with minor handling. That club there was the worst one, probably my PW (I don't usually hit the green in regulation heh).

Here's the 4 iron, which sees very little use. The grip was almost new-looking. I gave it no more than about 10 rubs with my thumb and went right through the "rubber" and exposed the gray fabric.

Well done. Really cool you did it yourself and found the compressor method. I like the clamping method you came up with as well. Yeah compressed air set right and it can work awesome. Its a cool thing to do, it feels so connected to the game for me. There is a good video of Arnold Palmer doing his grips in his work room. He wrapped all his own grips and explains why. I imagined that he spent a lot of time there, like his own private spot.

To push them on I put a pan under the grips and work with them horizontally. I make sure the leading edge is perpendicular and straight up. I put the tape on leaving a little on the end and twist it and tuck it into the shaft. then I squeeze the solvent all over the tape. Then I put my finger over the hole in the grip and put some solvent in the grip. I then cover other hole and shake the grip. I pour that out over the tape and then slide it on. As you found work quick or its sianara. With a compressor set right it is pretty easy to adjust and readjust, pushed on thats probably not going to happen. Last time I did it I was thinking they do it for free if you buy grips from them, why the heck didnt I just do thay. Oh yeah, I wanted them done now, and was going to play in a few hours.

Played a beautiful course saturday. Sorry guys, no pics, didn't even think of it. Fairway was just like carpet. Countryside Country Club, only a mile from my house. I used to be a member but no more, went with a friend. I played like crap, as usual, but ironically I think my swing is improving, both irons and driver. Putting was complete garbage.

Here's something you guys will like I think. Haha

No golf here[emoji2]

^^How in the? Wonder how many takes on that. Haha, that ls pretty cool. Ever watch dude perfect, I enjoy watching those guys do stuff like this.

Bought an annual pass to a local course last week. Played today. 50 degrees and occasional light rain, plenty of mud on the course. The course is on winter rules (LCP). Had a horrible front 9. However, as I was playing the 8th hole muscle memory kicked in. It was something I hadn't thought about for a long time but something that was important to my swing when I played a lot.

It was keeping a flat left wrist and not breaking it during the swing. Once I had that swing thought and remembered how the swing felt my shots improved greatly. I could feel the club head lag.

I'm a hacker. At my best I was a low 90's / sometimes high 80's guy. My goal for the next year is to play a few times a week and get back to having a low 20 or better index.

Flat left wrist at impact is a key I play with. I taught it to my brother in law and he hits it plenty good. I think it is his only swing thought. I have around 8 thoughts like that, haha, and I rotate them till I find one that works, and then I ride it as long as I can. Sometimes months, sometimes weeks. Johnny Miller and Jim Mcclean trach a drill for this. You stand in the doorway and rotate body into impact position and place flat left wrist against frame. You kind of push the wrist into the frame. The resistance gives a feeling of solid flat left wrist. Hogan spoke of a slight pronation in his book. This is also a thought of the great Dr. Wiren who invented the impact bag. I cant believe I havent splahsed out for an impact bag. I use couch cushions and tap away, not hit it, just constant tapping looking for a feel.

I had an impact bag at one time. I never could figure out how it was going to help me when hitting it.

Kept the flat wrist and club head lag thought today and paid real close attention to setup. I also broke out my other irons (I picked up a set of Ping Eye 2 last year and had been playing with those, today I used my Callaway X18 irons I've played with for 10 or so years) 15 strokes less than the last time I was out. I think part of it is I know how far each of the X18 irons will go, the Pings have different lofts. I also had 8 less putts. Todays round was right where I was when I played all the time.

So now I have a new goal, I want to be a mid 80's guy. Today's net was 18 over. Time will tell.

Edit: Net 18 is course net, actual score was 23 over. The course has a slope of 126.

P*ssy!

That's slush! Not snow!

I just jinxed myself. Booked an April trip to avoid the frost line to Chatham down on the Cape. Snowed the next day here.

Bought some Ecco's today. Highly recommend them. Really expensive after Couples made them popular but there's an outlet close to me. $40 score!

Those shoes are so nice! My inlaws gave me a pair of eccos and they are pretty stout. Man it was full blizzard as we walked out. Accumulation on everything, ranger rick pulled up and said we are closing the course. I was like why, all stearn totally messing with him.

The street shoes are really good for my back. They're my favorites.

Damn! That's where I state 2 putt gimmes. Snow slows the putts down. We've had a warm spell before the snow and getting the itch.i actually enjoy playing in the winter. Got the entire course to myself. There's one course down the street where I know the pro and he gives me the keys to close the gate. Now if I could only get the keys to the bar

Anybody here ever play on sand greens? Used to be pretty common on dry land courses out here in deepest, darkest, flyover country.
My first time on a golf course was sand greens. My mom took me with her one day in Aberdeen SD - I was about 6 yrs old. I remember there was a squeegee on each "green" used to smooth the surface between your ball and the hole. I didn't understand golf at the time, and thought it was a race. I thought I was winning 'cause I usually got the green first, even tho I probably hit the ball 5 times more often.

Brew on :mug:

I have a fascination with sand greens, dont know why. Have read stories in golf mags, and talked with people. Knew about the rake to smooth putt to hole and when you leave. Also courses with cans for green fees. I just love the idea of it. I wont score any better or worse, I figure. Anyways want to buy a piece of land. With one largish green maybe two. I could then design five or six holes to it. Tigers yard basically. Out east on the plains. swmbo not into it :)

Not the sand green thing but land for a 6 hole course then place tees at 3 different strategic locations for 18 was my dream.

Boys and I played the neighborhood course, Chi Chi Rodriguez. Opened the course. It was just beautiful out there. You can see the dew still sitting on fairway and fringe at the first green. Second pic is the 3-par 17th. Nice and warm by then :)
