Gate to drag up this thread, but looks like I need a couple good opinions. The firerock was tasted, and quickly rejected because it was "too hoppy". The raspberry hefe was great, (and already gone) but still not the right beer. Everyone involved in the luau seems to believe we need something more "tropical" soooooooo back to the drawing board for me.
I have considered many recipes on the forums, and have thought of brewing a smoked amber coconut ale. I have not nailed down the recipe yet, but Maybe a basic amber with a bit of briess Cherrywood and add 1.5 pounds of toasted coconut in the secondary. Plan b on the amber would be a mango coconut ale without the Cherrywood.
My second idea was a rasberry/strawberry hefe. Just A basic hefe with 3 pounds raspberries, and 2 pounds strawberries. A few people did not like the tartness from the raspberries of my other batch, so I figure the strawberries may add that extra sweetness to offset the raspberries tartness.
Ideas or opinions?
