So I have a good friend that so far has not been willing to try my home brew, which, in my opinion, is very good and could pass as commercial (most of the time). However, one of the favorite beers that he has had is Lion Red and he has promised that if I clone that beer, he will try it. So my challenge is to clone this beer and convert the non believer.

I have not seen a recipe for Lion Red on the internet or found one on this site. Does anyone have a clone recipe for this beer? I am not yet experienced enough to clone a beer off of the little information they will give out on the web site and by the taste of the beer. If anyone can help it will be greatly appreciated and it may result in converting a good soul from bud!

hum...a bit further searching and I'm not too sure I want a clone for this.

JeanLucD: Oh and don't worry, I'm making this one for a mate so even if it was skunked I'd just shut my mouth and hope he doesn't notice it, haha - he drinks lion red anyway (don't really know what the equivalent would be in the US, it's real commercial and flavourless to me) and even if he does, we'll still drink it.

Styles: Another one is people (invariably men), when discussing beer saying "I'm actually a *insert mass produced insipid beer here* man myself", I swear there are guys here in NZ that have never drank anything other than Lion Red.

Well, s..t, did my buddy ask me to clone the equivalent of ausi bud?

He kind of did. I have a little experience with NZ beers from visiting there. Lion Red was drinkable, and not terrible, but I would also compare it to US macrobrews. Could be worse, he could have asked you to clone Export Gold.

thanks for the reply jmarshall, I figured folks looked at the post and decided against reading it due to the beer. I'm not interested in trying to mimic a bud(esk) beer and don't even have the temp control for loggering so if I can't win him over with a nice ale then he can stick with the Old Milwaukee.
