i have a pergala i built in full sun in my garden but want to get some more ideas for sopporting structures as the current is more suited for grapes.

currently i have kents, cassade, and chinook

I have an arbor, that is next to my deck. It's probably not ideal, but it works great for us and makes harvesting easy!
A month or so before harvest:

And early spring when they first appear:

The other hops go up a light pole, and still more will go in the back of the garden (up a very tall fence) and one will have the clothesline.

THis is what I have in mind only bigger. I plan to sink a post at the corners of my patio and so the whole patio will be under a big Arbor. Do you think the hops will grow to cover an 8x8 arbor? I have two rhizomes on order, i think I shoud have gotten 4. One Cascade and one willamette. Should have got 4 cascades.

Alan

Too early yet for my yard. Lest you wanna see pictures of boxes.

13 plants all in a row spread across 50 feet supported by 3 posts in a raised bed.

I am going home early today from work so i can compost one more time and put some manure in the soil. This looks to be our first solid week of 50+ degree weather here in Eastern Maryland. This is my second year. Cascae, Williamete and Nugget. Looking very forward to donig some farming this year. :)

Envy.... hate.... loathing.....

That lucky SOB! NICE hop yard!

Mine will not be that big, but I'm hoping for ONE row as full as that..

Fingers crossed this year.

Here's mine, just put up and planted this afternoon. The first three poles are jumbo nugget rhizomes from freshops, and the last pole has a pair of northern brewer rhizomes from a HBT member.

Finally got my trellis up. Cascade, Centennial and Chinook. Hoping to plant one more rhizome this year but trying to figure out what other kind I want.

What a brilliant and elaborate plan...first you get Bob hooked on IPAs, then over the course of years have him start planting hops all over the yard until finally the clothesline is the last resort...now you don't have to hang out laundry. Genius! And I bet he hasn't figured it out yet.
