I think this about sums it up.

For Zwanze 2016, I wanted to do a bit of a throwback and revisit one of these old blends. Since the intensity of today's Rosé de Gambrinus approaches that of the Kriek, the additions of cherries to the raspberries no longer seemed necessary.

Instead, we had to turn to a fruit that would bring more intense color and flavor sufficient to stand out. My choice was to bring in the blueberries that we've used for the last ten years to create our Blåbær Lambic, a special beer done for the Danish market.

For our third ingredient, we've opted to use the finest possible Bourbon vanilla beans. During the '80s we used vanilla extract for reasons purely financial. Traditional Lambic-based beers were, at the time, under-appreciated and the breweries that produced only spontaneously fermented beers struggled to make ends meet. Cantillon was no exception, and it was impossible for us to use real vanilla in our Framboise. Zwanze 2016 is the new incarnation of what should have been during the dark years of Lambic.

To best appreciate the complexity of this beer, we suggest tasting it at a temperature of 12 to 15° C (55 to 60º F). Don't hesitate to warm your glass a bit if the beer is served too cold.

We've stepped back in time 30 years for Zwanze 2016, which is the result of a blend of 82% raspberries, 18% blueberries, and .05% Bourbon Vanilla beans, on which we've aged two-year-old Lambic at a rate of 300g fruit per liter.

Anyone know what bottles are going to be available at the Open Day? Pretty sure we knew limits and prices in advance the last couple of years.

Judging by the old thread on here they announced Zenne on the Monday with label scans, price etc.

Yeah I'd be perfectly happy with a cool on-site and just the standard stuff for off-sales. Guess we'll see in the morning.

If anyone wants to split bottles, hang out tomorrow let me know.

Im gonna take a minute to derail this topic away from the gloriousness that is happening with 3F and instead talk about Girardin.

I love Girardin black label, pretty sure ive stated that numerous times. Pneill316 sent me a Girardin tumbler yesterday because at some point in the past I mentioned always wanting one. I figured getting that glass was as good a time as any to proper it with a couple bottles that happened to be in my fridge.

Anyway.... for as much as I love black label, these are not my jam.

These are not "bad" offerings perse, they just didnt do it for me. They really lack complexity and waffle you in the mouth with the adjunct additions. The faro has a little bit of vinegar and cider with a healthy addition of raison/brown sugar. The kriek was like taking straight cherry juice and stripping the sugar out of it, then adding a 50/50 blend of mineral water and underdevoloped lambic.

To be perfectly honest, if you were to introduce someone to the lambic game and their first exposure was the Lindemans' koolaid, then these 2 Girardin offerings would be the next skipping stone.
