Drinking blauw right now! What a funk bomb

So I just drank the Ume lambic on Japanese plums and it is fantastic. Wonderful musty, earthy aroma with a strange, faintly sweet note; bright tartness, very interesting exotic fruit. Was skeptical of this one due to price tag and reviews, but it's original and delicious...would love to try the other versions.

The Lemon was very interesting and I thought quite good.

Had a 750 of 2006 Doesjel last night and it was totally flat but was an excellent beer, super funky and oaky-woody not much tartness but it was excellent. I post most if not all beers I drank last night in the 3/8/14 DDT. 2001 LPG was the winner last night

Has anyone here cracked Lente lately? How's it drinking? I have one bottle and I'll probably never get another one. I want to drink it for the spring equinox but if it's not in its prime maybe I'll wait.

It's been in it's prime since bottling and probably won't leave it for another 20 years or so (IMO).

Had a 2009 oude geuze MP last night, its drinking great. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. While i still prefer the super sours (hanssens & cantillon), the funk forward, dry earthy tart gueuzes are growing on me. I am enjoying 3F tilquin and even MP more than I used to

Perhaps a dumb question, but I found a lone 750 of Hannssens OG on the back of a shelf in a store the other day. I was trying to figure out the bottle date, but all I see is the letter E punched out on the label. Anyone know what that may infer in terms of bottle date? I assume it's somewhat recent, but found it interesting that there weren't any others in the store (and I'd never seen it there before)

Hanssens only started dating their U S bottles in mid to late 2012 so that is likely from some time between 2010 and 2012. Not sure what the letters mean though

I can date them for ya... sample size of 3 should be ok, but better include a spare. just send them to my house, and i'l let you know how old the remaining 8 are.

fair enough, is the beer any good though? how does it compare to the 3 others mentioned? i can get a good deal on it compared to most retail places - about the cost of 2 750ml bottles of tilquin or cantillon

How was that Brabantiae? Decent? That last time I had it in 2012 it was pretty solid considering the age.

I liked it more than most at the tasting, it was definitely falling off if i can compare it to other cantillon gueuzes but for 25 years old it was excellent.
no vinegar presence what so ever, and from reading reviews that was most peoples biggest complaint. it was however the most funky cantillon I have ever drank, smelled like a musty old basement, the flavor was also funk funk funk with a pleasant sourness.

Drinking a US (Shelton label) 2006 Doesjel right now. It has just a hint of carb, but not much. I like still lambic so I like this quite a bit; it's well-balanced, with lots of funk/oak/apple in terms of taste and aroma. The more I drink it the more I like it actually. I would say worth seeking out if you're reading this thread, but not really "better" than regular OG.

Having had a similar experience with Doesjel, and having more bottles than I care to drink still I am thinking I will experiment a bit. For science I will try carbing one using my cousins soda stream and see what it does to it. Has anyone ever tried anything like this? If so, how did it work out?

I thought it was pretty decent to be honest. It's an interesting beer in the way it was produced and it tastes fine. Not top tier, but certainly not bad. I'd drink a lot of it if it were around more easily.

Well, yeah, there's a new one every year (or thereabouts), isn't there? They're made for a chocolatier by a different brewery each year and in 2011 it was Cantillon.
