All mine have black foil. Does that just mean they were u.s. imports?
i didn't think mine had a synthetic (no foil), but i really wasn't paying attention. if i remember i'll check tonight.

looking forward to it though!

All of mine so far have been synthetic. If any of my remaining bottles aren't synthetic, I'll report back.

Does anyone know exactly what the issues were with the synthetic corks, were they leaking and not holding carbonation? As it seems that the reports are most have held up, or am I wrong?

I wonder if it was an issue of the quality of the synthetic corks. maybe the acidity in the beer, though low was enough over time to weaken the cork and leach chemicals into the beer.

From what I can tell it's just that people think they don't taste as good. I'm really not convinced that it's anything other than confirmation bias.

So is that to say my 06 vintage doesnt taste as good as other vintages? I've tried the 07 & 08 vintage so far, but have been told my 06 is crap.

I've never noticed the '06 being worse. That's part of why I'm not convinced there's any issue with the corks. My guess about how this started would be someone noticing the synthetic cork on a bottle that just happened to be worse than average (it's lambic, it happens), and it spread from there. When you have an idea in your head about how something is supposed to taste, it'll often taste that way (hence the "white wine dyed red" results).

Anyway, that's not to say that those bottles are definitely fine, just that I'm skeptical about claims that they're not.

Really liked this last time I had it and I am going to toss these (well probably just one) into the cellar and go buy more. A steal at 10 bucks!

Did anybody who mentioned the 2006 doesjel 750ml end up opening one? I have a few in the cellar and was wondering on their carbonation status. reading through BA reviews some seem to be medium carbed while others mention champagne like carbonation. Also are the 750mls the synthetic cork or real cork, I believe the 375mls from 06 were synthetic.

I had one last year, synthetic cork. It was somewhere between flat and mildly carbed. Still a nice lambic but I wasn't blown away by it either.

mine's definitely synthetic, with no foil. weird. was going to open it the semi-short term anyway to see if i need to order more!

Well I will be opening the 1st of the 750s I have in 2 weeks and will report back on its status. On another note, how would you guys rank the following fairly available gueuzes (non one offs)

Here is my order
Hanssens (I know nobody likes hanssens over others but I do and it's available so hooray for me)
Cantillon
Tilquin
3F
Girardin
Timmermans (new one)
oud Beersel veille
Cuvee Rene
Mariage Parfait

Fresh or aged?

Also, Hanssens is awesome. I just wish it were cheaper. It's hard to justify buying it when it's $5 more than 3F. I'm hoping to get a few at the next Whole Foods sale.

From a blind tasting amongst 8 people (note that we did 3 flights of 4 instead of having them all side-by-side):

Also I'm referring to fresh in all cases. I've had some vintages lambics but nothing to old on the gueuze front

I can get hanssens for $17ish per 750 best I can get on 3F is 18
Man, the cheapest I've seen Hanssens is like $24.

That's awesome. I've always wanted to do that. I'm sort of surprised at Resurgam and DDG ranking so high.

Haven't had De Cam or Girardin geuzes ( :( ), but:

3F
Tilquin (just kidding, Tilquin is dead last, obviously)
Cantillon
Hanssens
Oud Beersel Vielle
Timmermans
Cuvee Renee
St. Louis

Mariage Parfait

Still cracks me up that DDG trades for what it trades for and people don't appear to care about Resurgam. So many lulz.
