tommyguz talked me into splitting a girardin volume pack a couple years back and I am honestly pissed I didnt turn around and buy another one just for myself. I think 75cls came out to $13 or 14 after shipping. A couple weeks later he spotted 375’s on the shelf for $15 a piece. Pretty much immediately after that we went to order more and the price got hiked up on BIAB too.

Sigh. Why didn’t we buy like 40 packs.

Filling up my Etre box and need some advice - Oud Beersel Oude Kriek - worth it? I don't think I've ever had and the price seems very decent for a 750ml kriek.
The Schaerbeekse? I thought it was awesome. Never had the regular version.

Last bottle I had, which was a few years back, I liked decently for a everyday kriek (even over Cuvee Rene Kriek). Low acid, mid fruit. The fruit present was less pie/cinnamon and more candy/tootsie pop/“extract” but not overly. Oak was pretty present, no sign of depth (funk) given this bottle had a few years on it. Dry finish. Oak stood out to me, added mouthfeel /structure and substituted any funk missing. Body was still thinner. Good price for a great bottle. YMMV.

I remember debating this for like 2 month a long time ago. Tried to get a friend to go in with me. Finally just pulled the trigger. I just looked it up. In Dec 2015 I paid 214 Euro for 20 750ml bottles shipped. In Oct 2016 I paid 202 Euro (used a voucher) for the same thing. So they were around $11.50-$12 a bottle. Those days are long gone.

2 or 3 years ago I ordered a case of 3F OG 750mls from Finest Belgian Beers. Each was 6.5 euro before shipping. I think I paid maybe $12/bottle after shipping. #TBT

that's the lowest I got I think. 18 750s, $14.85 each to my door.

The bulk packs in that time were so ******* great. I also regret not buying all of them.

I think we shared one at my place. I think I paid $8 for that 375, and they are turding up the shelves in NJ. Personally, thought the OG was better.

Short cork, and today I noticed it looked like it was removing itself from the bottle a bit, so I figured I'd open this in case of a gas leak and potentially not aging great. Cork came out with no pressure whatsoever, but there's still a bit of carb and longer head retention than usual. It seems to be a bit of a misshapen, asymmetrical cork. No prominent off flavors, but not the most impressive GB experience. Strangely watery and paradoxically full of flavor, so it's very drinkable and growing on me actually as I write this and contemplate my experience. Golden Blend is one of my favorite beers, so I may set myself up for disappointment with high expectations. Thanks for reading my ranting!

:( Anything unusual with the bottle when you opened it?

Cork was wet all the way so it obviously wasn’t promising. Jammy AF but definitely smelled and tasted of wet cardboard.

Stored horizontally in my actual basement which floats between 50 and 55. I’ve got a few more, I’ll open another tonight, for science.

I’ve heard lambic should be stored horizontally. Anyone have any thoughts on upright vs horizontal?

We get no Shelton love in Jersey.
Not anymore, huh? I remember going into a Canals in like '09 and them having several LPG and LPF or K just hanging out on shelves. Only bought maybe one of each and traded one. Same with 3F Schaarbeekse. Saw it several spots, bought 1. If I had only known...

Yeah they had issues with their distributor here apparently...bad blood turned in to them pulling out and not coming back. I know a store that used to stock tons before I knew what lambic was and rumor has it the buyer has them hidden in the basement for his own enjoyment.

I would try to get in good with them but the store really sucks. Still sitting on 5+ year old Mikkeler bottles and ****. The shelves are a mess with cases sitting unopened all over the aisles and most of the locals aren't stored cold but all the macro **** is.

There's a cool ghostwhale (Cantillon Mozart) in the lambic.info Facebook group.
Cool, so it's essentially an alt label standard framboise of the era. Still a neat story though:
According to Jean-Pierre Van Roy, the Cuvée Mozart is a bière d’étiquette/etiketbier (lit. “label beer”), denoting that an existing beer from the Cantillon range was used to produce this bottle. In this case, it was Cantillon Framboise.

The Cuvée Mozart was created for a club of people associated to the Cirque Royale/Koninklijk Circus (Royal Circus) in Brussels, who often feature classical music concerts.

This bottling was done to celebrate the Mozart Year in 1991 (Van Roy believed this to be in the 80s, but both research and substantiated cellaring notes place this bottle as a 1991 vintage, the 200th anniversary of Mozart’s death.)

Bottles were also for purchase at the brewery in the summer of 1991.

According to Van Roy, the Cuvée Mozart is “classical recipe” Cantillon Framboise (with added vanilla to soften the tart raspberries used) with a custom label.

When asked which beer they wanted, the cultural group quipped: “of een bak Kriek, of een bak Framboise” (either a case of Kriek, or a case of Framboise), in reference to German-French composer Jacques Offenbach, of who they were also very fond.
