Hello everyone,

I would like to try a recipe that needs ¼ lb of lactose which I can’t get at my LHBS. I was wondering if I can substitute with a combo of maltodextrin( for body ) & splenda( for sweetness ). The style of the beer is a stout with cacao, coffee & vanilla.

Thanks
Danny

Splenda is a mixture of sucralose and maltodextrine. The MD is there as a bulking agent and is 90% of the volume. So, straight Splenda will do the trick. I'd recommend you try half as much to start, as Splenda is much sweeter than lactose.
