I was brewing a milk stout and added 1 pound of latose before i took a final gravity reading. After i realized what i had done, i took a reading and it was 1.050. can someone guess how much gravity the lactose added so i can figure alcohol content. . FYI the beer was supposed to finish at 1.023 but wouldn't be surprised it did. id like to be within a percent of the content.:mug:

Lactose is 46 points per pound, like most pure sugars. In five gallons, it added 0.009.

1.040 is really high, what was the OG?

:) Sorta wierd i didnt get a email about a reply: OG was 1.12. I think what happened: i used wyeast 1084 and it is only good to 10 percent and that is about where i am at. The pamplet i had for wyeast showed it was good to 12 (must have been an older one). it is not quite the content i wanted but it will be fine.
