yes, just sent you a pm

I am impressed bad for business sold out so much faster than the haze (even if it was a much smaller run). It is really hard to find local canned west coast ipas these days. Is the haze bubble finally going to burst?

Heyo Homies. I'm staying on Venice Beach till Sunday and planning to hit FW and Monkish, if I'm trying to hit 3 more within a 30 minute drive, what would you recommend?

I would vote for Smog City and El Segundo. Phantom Carriage, Scholb, Yorkshire Square, State, LA Aleworks, and Three Weaver's are all options as well...

Uber/Lyft is your friend

If it’s not on you your list check out Library Alehouse in Santa Monica - lots of local drafts
Father’s Office - good list and burger
In Venice - check out Simmzy’s - fairly solid draft list and food

Depending on traffic Highland Park can be 30 min away from Venice. It could also be over an hour so just look at traffic.

Phantom Carriage, El Segundo and even Beachwood (again depending on traffic)

Smog is walking distance from Monkish, so you cant beat that. Phantom Carriage is hit and miss, but a pretty awesome vibe. El Segundo is fantastic. I have not been to King Harbor yet, but the cans I have received were quite good.

Maybe someone could chime in on King Harbor?

Hey, all! I'm visiting LA for the first time in like... 15 years, and am looking for a few recs for places to have a beer or good cup of coffee. I'm staying in what I think is the West Hollywood/Beverly Grove neighborhood, but will have a car. So far, the closest option I've found is Blue Palms Brewhouse.

Not looking to spend an hour in line waiting for hazy IPA cans, but very interested in trying some of your local beer that I've not had, which is most. Have heard very nice things about HPB, which might be a bit too far out of my way, so if there's a local spot w/ some on tap that would be great.

I've identified a few nearby coffee shops to check out, but am very interested in other recommendations too. So far, I have: Coffee Commissary, Verve, Demitasse Coffee, and maybe Go Get Em Tiger.

Will do some touristy things (The Getty, Warner Bros studio tour, etc.), and so I am planning on a little bit of travel around town. The talk of your crazy traffic frightens me some, but I'll make the best of it.

Bar Nine for coffee in Culver City is another solid place to try; as for HPB and/or Monkish, you should really go to the source.

Surly Goat is in the area, if you're just looking for a good beer bar.

Agree here. Unfortunately you won't find much in the way of beer bars/breweries in the immediate area you are staying. But with a little bit of a drive (absolutely worth it) you can hit HPB

My number one recomendation would be head to Southland Beer + Beer Belly in Koreatown. They are not too far and both always have good tap lists (southland beer has an especially good looking one right now). Plus you can get some awesome korean food while you are in the area. Crawfords always has one HPB beer on tap and isn't too much further. If you head downtown Mumford Brewing is certainly worth a stop. They might not have cans when you are there but you can get crowlers of pretty much all their beers and the place typically is pretty low key. Mikkeller Bar and Far Bar are my favorite two bars downtown.

The Verve Coffee on 3rd is probably your closest good coffee spot in the area you are staying. And you will get some stereotypical LA people watching at that location. If you go downtown, Demitasse or Blacktop have good coffee (easy to link up with Mumford or Far Bar). If you really want to win, go to Spoke Bicycle Cafe and get some Trystero coffee. Or if you are around on a Wednesday pickup some beans straight from the source at Thank You For Coming. TrysteroCoffee do you also brew coffee on Wednesday's there or is it just pickup of bags of beans?

Shut up and go get a pastrami breakfast burrito at Cofax. You can thank me later.

****'s expenseeeve! Like $9. But it's primo.

Plan Check and Fat Dog are nearby gastropubby spots with at least *some* good beer (and pretty tasty food too). Golden State (same guys as Cofax) is a tiny spot with like 8 decent taps and a great burger. Surly Goat is the spot for the best pure beer experience around there. But even they are unlikely to have any HPB or Monkish. I have a soft spot for Blue Palms (and I think their food is pretty great too), but the draft list can be hit-or-miss. Usually find at least a few things of interest on any given day, but it's not always a blockbuster lineup.

Venturing a bit farther, yeah, Beer Belly is great. You can also reach places like Library Alehouse in Santa Monica, Father's Office in SaMo or Culver City in about that same amount of time... Likely to have some great beer and food there as well. Kind of just depends on what you're after, and what part of town you want to venture to. And there are a lot of great beer spots peppered throughout the city nowadays (Barbara's at The Brewery, for instance).

Finding specifically HPB and/or Monkish stuff is a trick. They really only sell to people that they have longstanding relationships with, and it can sometimes be somewhat random. So unless (or even *if*) you know the network of friends and all of their establishments to try to check out those places, it's kind of a crapshoot. Or you can go straight to the source and experience the motherlode.

HPB and Monkish offer some of the best beers in LA, for my money. So it's worth the time, effort, and trek. But it's also understandable if you don't want to bother, because there's a lot of great beer (and great food! and great coffee!) out there these days. Don't sleep on Beachwood Brewing, Cellador Ales, or Craftsman Brewing, which are my other 3 favorite breweries in LA at the moment. Beachwood and Craftsman beers should be around. Cellador is a rare treat. But if you stumble across it, don't miss it.

I haven't explored coffee shops and roasters quite as much as many others here probably, but Verve is damn good, Trystero is great, and Go Get 'Em Tiger is pretty great too (for espresso in particular).

EDIT: I know I'm talking way more about food than you requested, but it's because amazing food is the thing that LA is really teeming with right now. There are so many incredible things to eat. If I were visiting LA for the first time in 15 years, I would plan my entire trip around hitting up the best food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And I would swing through beer spots in the gaps in-between. West Hollywood is a great spot to be for its access to wonderful food.
