I named my homebrewing operation Komodo brewing company a while ago, and my buddy recently has been making some cool artwork and logos for me. I wanted to make some custom tap handles to show off his work. I decided a tap with a Komodo head coming out of the top of it would be awesome, so I sculpted one tonight. Here it is drying. I plan to paint it tomorrow

Will update as I make more progress!

The saliva from the Komodo dragon causes paralysis, no? Sounds like the making of a Komodo DIPA. Nice work.

Yeah its like over 50 types of bacteria in their saliva. They bite their prey and then follow it around until it dies. The beer naming possibilities are endless.

Just painted it this morning. Added some translucent green drool to the mouth. The next step is figuring out what to do with the handle. I have it here but I need to figure out what I want to do to decorate it.

Pretty pleased with how the head came out. Ill keep updating as I make more progress!

Burned my buddy's logo into the top and komodo down the sides. After glueing my hands together, I managed to get the head into the top of the handle. Just needs to be sanded down and have the tap insert put into the bottom and she's all done!

This was a pretty cool project all in all. In you want to make tap handles, wood burning is super easy I just picked up carbon paper and a soldering iron and it worked great.

I saw Upland and thought maybe CA. Nope, Upland IN. Definitely not getting a taste of the Komodo Dragon Fly anytime soon.

Well it's Upland Brewing Co. in Bloomington, IN but it's hard to find here in Indiana too. They do pretty small batches of it.

Wait, so the beer actually comes out of the Komodo's mouth? That's freaking awesome!

I wish. Unfortunately, this is just like any other tap handle which sits on top of a normal faucet. I'll post pics when its on my kegerator.

Ah damn. I saw that first picture you posted in the last batch and it looks like there's a hole in the Komodo's mouth where beer could come out.

Make it happen! :rockin: :D

Just finished this thing up. I sanded it down, reburned the lettering, applied the first coat of finish and stain, moulded the head flush with the sides, sanded and restained it. Here is the final product on my kegerator!
