You too, huh? Took me 3/4 bag to heat, I say again HEAT, pre cooked brats. Took another 3/4 bag to cook 3 ribeyes to medium rare, and it took about 40 minutes.
Stubbs is the best.
I may have to revoke your Cheesehead card . . . please tell me you meant "simmered in beer and onions just prior"

It was deer camp, I brought the "charcoal" and a friend brought the "brats." Come on pumbaa, you know me better than that!
I cursed him almost as much as the "charcoal"
Maybe the charcoal was moist. I was just suprised how slowly and unevenly it burned. I bought the large 22lb bags (I meant 22 in the orginal post) before from HD and they were fine. It's worked well over the years, I'll give them another try.
novafire said:Lately I have started disliking Kingsford as well. I generally like natural lump, but sometimes I'll buy briquettes for whatever reason. Kingsford seems to burn out fast and leaves a ton of ash behind. I have picked up a few bags of Royal Oak and I really like it. It has a smokier and cleaner smell as soon as it ignites and leaves less ash. Plus I believe it is usually cheaper than Kingsford when not on sale.
I'm itching to burn through the 40lbs of Kingford I got for cheap from HD.
So I'm wondering WHY it "sucks."
Kingsford has always sucked.
That is why they sell Stubbs, Cowboy chunks, etc. If Kingsford heated fine and didn't make gallons of ash, no one would buy the other stuff and it wouldn't exist.
So then it's the malamine and lead that aren't burning well?
