Hi all:

I've been wondering lately about experimenting with smaller batches. I currently keg with 5 gallon soda kegs. My question is whether or not I could brew 2.5-3 gallon batches and keg in my current kegs.

Is there any negative effect to kegging in a system that could handle bigger volumes?

I figure since the keg is under pressure that all the oxygen will be removed anyways, even though there will be empty space...

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks

Just be sure to purge the oxygen from the corny after racking your beer into it. It's really no different than having 3 gallons left of a 5 gallon batch. My practice after racking is to purge the keg 3 times to make sure no oxygen is left in the keg. Other people fill the corny with CO2 first, then rack their beer on top...but I personally think that's a waste of gas. But hey, whatever works and makes great beer! :mug:

One thought- if your force carb, it probably won't take as long as a full keg, since there is a higher volume of CO2 on top of the beer. Other then that, have fun brewing!
