So what was the verdict on this bad boy?

SO here goes my short and concise review:

Ordering: Easy, and Inexpensive. Quick shipping also (Im about 120 miles north of the shipping location)

Packing: Spot On!

Product: Upon opening it I thought "Damn its heavy!" But seriously solid little roller! It looks great once you take 10 minutes to peel off the protective BLUE film from the roller casing and hopper. Its easy as hell to build also. 10 minutes for assembly. I mounted mine to a piece of MDF I had laying around and set it on top of a bucket when I mill.

But now the main question, How is the mill?
One answer, quite awesome! :rockin: for $160 shipped to me I cant beat it... seriously! I have done 3 brew days now, and have increased my BIAB efficiency by 3% on all 3 occasions as opposed to my home-brew stores mill. I have noticed however today that the bottom roller did come a bit loose which I caught in time. so watch out for that. Im thinking adding some nylon threaded nuts can easily fix this issue.

I say snag one.

PS Im using a cordless drill

Thanks for the write-up Don. Sounds like it's just as good as any mill right outta the box. Looking forward to a longer term update.

I got one of those regulators. It leaked out of the pressure relief valves. They sent me another, it leaked out of the blue valves that go to the keg. I upgraded to their "commercial" one. It leaked out of the safety valve that is supposed to hold up to 45 PSI after I specifically asked them to leak check it before sending.

I wouldn't buy from them again. In fact, I think I'm going to send all three back and buy a micromatic or something.

I posted this thread about my issues if you're curious of the long winded story.

Ughh.. well thanks for the heads up. Hopefully if it leaks, its something I can fix. I took me a long time to work out all the tiny leaks in my current setup.

So I pulled the trigger on the mill... It will be my first mill, so I won't have anything for reference. I do have feeler gauges so I can set my gap accurately. Any recommendations on the setting for the third roller?

I had a KegCo as my primary dual gauge regulator and it worked for several months until I changed out the CO2 tank. After opening the tank valve the pressure immediately climbed to max and trips the relief valve and starts the whole thing over again. They sent me a new one free of charge but after reading many reports online about this brand of regulator consistently failing I ordered a Taprite, which is the brand I use for my 3-way secondary and love the thing, and switched it out. I'm keeping the KegCo merely as a backup now. If you have the option to exchange I recommend considering sending it back and going with a Taprite. Even if the KegCo works for now it most likely will fail in time.

*EDIT - sorry to derail!!

Rev.

I just ordered one of these. They are on sale for $139.99. Shipping was $11.95. I have been using Brewmaster's Warehouse for custom recipes and pre-crushed grain. But, I'm not so sure they are going to be around much longer. I also bought a Brewha Medium BIAC system, so I figure I'll just start buying in bulk and grind my own grain.

Used mine for the first time. I still need to dial in my crush, but it works just fine. My efficiency jumped almost 10 points.

On a side note, the blue film is a PITA to peel off. It also leaves a somewhat tacky residue on the hopper. Take your time to peel, clean, and dry all the hopper parts before you assemble.

Have you used it more since then? Would you recommend buying one?

Haven't used it twice. Just the first time. It's the first grain mill I've ever had, and I have no comparison. I do know it made beer. And I guess that's the most important part.

i actually have no issues with it going with the supplied manual arm attachment either. 7 batches in, 86% efficiency every time (BIAB)

Does anyone have a photo of a base or table they have made for their mill? I think I'm going to build something with wheels. but compact enough to move into a corner out of the way.

BTW, I meant to comment on the mill. It came quickly, was well packed and every piece was covered in blue protective film and then wrapped in brown paper. If you buy one, make sure you don't think some of the brown paper is trash. I almost threw away the two little triangular pieces that go at the bottom inside of the hopper. Quality-wise, it seems to be pretty much like a MM I've seen. It was also easy to assemble. If you have an offset phillips screwdriver and some sockets, it will really speed up the assembly of the hopper. The instructions were photocopies and if you don't like those there is a nice PDF on the Bev Factory website. I have not used mine yet, so I have no review of that.

I have run roughly 100# through mine, powered by a low speed, high torque, variable drill.... I love this thing. The only issue I have would be a need for larger hopper, but I plan on fabricating an extension.

In my opinion these guys did a great job in making a monster mill knock off. If I were monster mill I would be pissed because this thing is almost identical to theirs

I finally took a few photos of mine with the little platform I built. The whole thing is on wheels so I can move it easily. The platform was sanded smooth and coated with several coats of clear poly. Yes, that is a Dewalt drill. Overkill I know, but I almost always use my Hitachi cordless drill when I need to drill holes. The black handle on the drill is tilted downward so it rests on the platform and keeps the drill level

Took a few photos of an 18.25lb grain bill I crushed. This is on the factory setting.
