What are the advantages of a keezer over a kegorater...Obviously the keezer will have colder temps...but wouldn't a fridge keep beer at a drinkable temp anyway? I'm kind of a newb so I was just wondering.

I have a $60 Craigslist side by side that keeps my beer as cold as I want it. My kid has a $200 keezer with a $60 temp controller that chills his beer to the same temp. I had my side by side reconfigured (installed a level plywood floor, removed and rearranged some shelves), installed two shanks and had it ready to go in about an hour. My kid put about 8 hours into his.

Just depends what you want and how much you want to put into it.

I think the big advantage is what will fit in your proposed location.

A kegerator will also let a lot more cold air out when you open the door there fore having to work a bit more to cool the air when you close the door. A keezer assuming chest variety will keep most of the cold air inside when you open the lid.

I was thinking about getting into kegging and just wanted to make sure my extra fridge would be suitable...From what I gather it most certainly would be.

It all depends on your buget and swmbo's need for beautification. I also got the $50 craigslist fridge with plywood base.
I can fit two 5 gal and the 16 gal commercial or 3-4 5 gal and a torpedo commercial.
They say you use less electricity with the keezers because they run better and hold cold better when opening the door.

I also run a upright deepfreeze fermenter for my carboys and kegs that get conditioning.

I really like the idea of the plywood base, I think that might have to happen to my fridge.

It was no brainer for me. Glass bottom and at an angle.
