Just went to order grain, and got strangly aroused!

I love how MoreBeer does a geo-location on your IP address and promises 2 day shipping to whatever returns. 2 days to South Africa? It takes that long for the courier to move it in the local depot, let alone across the world. :)
In their defense....there are at least two days involved.

just bought my first digital refrac, thinking how i always wanted a digital hydrometer! just didn't like refrac's because they measure in 'lame' brix....

And then low and behold on the morebeer homepage! behold! lol :mug:
I have one of those in my cart right now. Along with the Max 2 glycol chiller and associated necessities. I already got the wheels to put on the chiller here (Amazron).

At least they're true with their return policy. I returned the two 15 gal slingblade elements since the ones that came with my Spike HLT and BK would also work in my old keggle BK. Not to mention the Spike elements are 5500W where the slingblade was only 4500W.

i really am hoping there's enough early adopters to get it down to $199 or so, so i can afford one! when i bought my first projector it cost as much as my first car, and now you can get a used one for $200....but i always toast to the early adopters! (that thing looks REALLY cool! digital to the 0.001! i bet it would love my digital refrac for drinking beer with alcohol, so they can both tell me how drunk i am! :mug:)

I plan to order mine as soon as my two Spike CF10's ship. That way I can use it for the next batch. Chiller will be ordered within about a week of yeast going in. Don't need it for keeping fermentation temps in line, but will use it to cold crash for carbonating in fermenter.

This is becoming an EXPENSIVE year for brewing gear for me.

my discount digital refrac set me back $90, so i've had to go back to malting my own for a while to recoup my loses......
I don't got no TIME for dat!!
Considering how almost all the grain I use comes from the UK. I can't even grow my own hops to use. Never mind how where I'm living wouldn't work for growing them (not enough sun, land, etc. where I'm renting right now). Pretty much the only ingredient going into my beer that's not UK items is my water (except for one malt I use in some batches).

I'm one of the people that's gotten to the point where the mode is "buy once, cry once". Provided I have a way to get that item that is. I should have all of the stuff I'm buying paid off before end of year. Need to do my taxes to see how much I'm either getting back, or getting screwed. Hopefully the former, so that I can put that towards all of what I've been buying.

I've looked at the 'discount' models on Amazron. Sorry, but really don't trust them. Seems to be a wide range of experiences over time on them. IMO, if MoreBeer is carrying one, it should do better than the cheap versions.

at this point, i can't tell if you're getting pissed i don't get the joke...serious, or somewhere inbetween... at any rate :mug:

Nah, not pissed... Just sitting around waiting for the CF10's to get shipped to me. Also been working on reconfiguring the brew stand for better pump placement. Need to get the now bare metal protected before next brew day. Looking to use some bed liner rattle cans to do that.

Going to be selling off most of my old fermenters as well. They're configured to ferment under pressure easily (converted sanke kegs, so good pressure rating).

Once the housing market is no longer full retard, I plan to get a house of my own. Just no way am I going to pay tens of thousands more than the place is worth. That will help out a good amount since I'm a bit tight on space here since I kicked off brewing again. The changes I'm making for the setup/system will help. But if I want more than two batches going at a time, it's not going to be pretty.

🤔 well man, i still can't tell if you're joking...

after hearing that, i want to say i'm going to brew on my kitchen stove tomorrow, going to set my 10 gallon cooler on a chair next to it. sparge into a bucket ($5), and get a kick out of my fancy refrac....took me a year to save up for looking for deals.....

That's what happens with too much time on your hands and free stimulus money. I've replaced almost every piece of my equipment. Still waiting on shipments from Spike. But as I age I don't foresee brewing more than 5 gallons at a time any more so I'm converting to electric.

"Stimulus money"?? WTF is that?? I earn too much to get any .gov handouts.

My normal batch size was always 6 gallons (three gallon kegs) due to the beer fridge I built in 2011. Now with the keezer I can also use the 6 gallon Torpedo kegs (bought two, only used one so far) or any of the three 5 gallon kegs I picked up at some point years back. The CF10's are rated for 5-10 gallon batch sizes. I might try a 12 gallon batch at some point. Well, except for how it will be damned close to the fill line if I do that. Fermenting under pressure might help mitigate the risk of doing that. Will have to decide later.

Right now, I'm doing all I can to streamline the steps/process without sacrificing any quality.

We kegged the 12 gallons of English IPA Sunday (5/2) and then canned up six gallons of hard cider. New canning machine works a lot better (for us) than the one we were using (which is up for sale). I need to adjust the pedestal height for that a little (higher) and then use some gauge blocks to get what it needs to be for 16oz cans.

Next weekend we'll be canning up at least 6 gallons of the English IPA and three gallons of the chocolate stout. Bringing both over to the Mudder's Day gathering at my sister's place. I'll probably fill the 1.6 gallon Torpedo keg as well and take that too. The IPA will be put into both 12oz and 16oz cans since mom likes the 12oz cans more. Basically, that's how much she can drink fast enough that it doesn't get too warm. Once the current cases of cans are used up, I'll have to decide if we're going to still use both, or settle on just one size. I do think I want to get the 'full port' version of the cans. Since they act more like glasses for when you drink from them.

Need to let some people know I have some of the hard cider cans here if they want some. I'll have to be sure to save some for the bbq I'm planning (mid month).

I read that thread and still can't figure who are you talking to and what is the "conversation" about.

Hey @bracconiere did you get the easydens? Maybe I missed that you did in this thread. Looks like an awesome tool for measuring gravity.

Anybody that owns one please chime in on your experience with this unit.

I'm thinking of taking the plunge on this.

no, but it haunts my mind! damn ~$400, ain't no 'cheap' hooker!

But maybe @Golddiggie can chime in!

Yeah 3 Benjamins is already quite enough lol.

:bigmug:

and i thought when i posted this it was only $250? but it's been a couple months. maybe a heat proof tilt you can leave in the boil? lol watch the boil off via bluetooth?

That would be incredible you should get in contact with Tilt R&D. I have a tilt but damn that would be cool.

Yeah I was looking at a normal refractometer and then saw this thing and I was like dddaaammmnnn. Obviously, I don't need it but it looks awesome and I'm sure would increase precision of readings over almost any of the other cheaper products.

Easydens is running $349 on sale at more beer so maybe inflation?

I’m waiting until The EasyDen’s has a peristaltic pump, so it can pump out a sample from the fermenter and take the measurement. This way I can get a reading every hour. R&D labs with bigger fermentors often have this setup with OTS parts.

I agonized about getting the ED for a long while but it has turned out to be one of the better purchases of my long brewing hobby.
