I had a homebrew Black Scapular Dubbel tonight, alongside a Westmalle dubbel, and I'm amazed to say, I actually preferred mine! I can taste differences - mine is slightly less bitter, slightly more hop flavor (both very subtle differences) and mine was just enough lighter to be a truly gorgeous color.
So the point of the post is, I've learned enough to brew this wondrous thing mostly because I read on HomeBrewTalk every day. The cumulative wisdom here is truly astounding. To those who put up with "Should I dump it?" and "It's not fermenting yet!" and the thousand other questions of us noobs and patiently guide us through the beginnings of a real addiction: Thank you!
And to those who are considering the plunge but haven't yet - Do it. You'll be amazed and delighted with what you make.
