Phantom Pot. Was there supposed to be a picture or link

OK, you did OK.

You asked, I told.;)

Edit: Link is up, it looks like it will definitely do the trick. Fill it with water and boil for 15-30 minutes. It will give a layer of oxidization which will keep form getting any metallic flavors.

Post up how it looks and how heavy duty it seems. Awesome price if it holds up. I like the steamer insert to keep my bag for BIAB off the bottom.

Please tell me I did ok

I would say much better than OK...you did great! Nice pot, with lid and insert...for a great price w/ reasonable shipping...home run!

I'm tempted to buy one even though I have almost a half dozen kettles.

They also have a 40 qt for a few bucks less if someone knows they will stay at 5 gal batches, as the 40 qt is a nice size for 5 gal batches IMO.

might not be very sturdy (thick) but should do the job. could be tricky pouring large boils. consider siphoning or something along those lines.

I've got a cheap 8 gallon aluminum steamer pot just like that, bought for about $20-25 when I first started AG. I put a wledless bulkhead on there & I still use it for things here and there even though I have a SS pot for my "main" kettle. Aluminum heats up quickly and the steamer tray comes in handy for BIAB or partial mashes if you ever want to do those.
You can NEVER have too many pots/kettles :)

When you get that pot, can you measure the distance between the bottom of the pot and the "tray shelf" ? I'm curious if a heating element could squeeze in there....

Sounds like steaming inserts are recommended for BK's? Maybe I'll see if my round rack for the microwave will fit in there... or find another one to use. No idea if the one I have is SS or not.

Sure , I'll do that. Glad some others picked up on this deal too!:mug:
BTW it shipped today and I ordered yesterday. Looks like they ship USPS parcel post.

I just got this exact same one and it came in the mail yesterday. Opened up the box and the whole bottom was dented to crap. Talked to icy deals today and they are shipping a replacement via FedEx. Pot is wider than I had anticipated. Thin but should do the trick.

Any questions just let me know and I will try to answer them.

That really sucks that it was all dented up. At least they are sending you a new one. So I take it the pot isn't very heavy gauge? What's your overall take on the pot, handles, construction etc.?

Well, if you get to keep the one that is all dented to crap, I would imagine that it could be "undented" and usable. You could DIY, or your local autobody guy could straigjhten it pretty well for a sixer.

Unfortunately they are sending a return label as well. Handles seem decent. It isn't as tall as i would have liked it but for under 30 it isn't bad.

FWIW... here are some pics of the one I ordered... I'm stoked! Thanks for posting the link OP.

Looks to be almost 16" wide x a little over 15" deep. Seems sturdy enough for me to brew in. Can't wait for my bulkhead to get here from bargainfittings... I'll be set.

OK guys, got my pot Tuesday, pretty fast on the shipping. Overall quality is good. It's not heavy gauge by any means but should work just fine. Room from the steamer plate to the bottom of the pot is 1" maybe 1/4" more at best. Handles are nice with 4 rivets holding each handle. For the money it seems to be a pretty good deal. This thing is big, duh, 13 gallons. I'm boiling 11 gallons of hot tap water in it right now on my 5 burner gas stove and it's under 3 burners (that's how big it is) to see how long it takes to come to a boil (with lid on). I know it's a good idea to "season" your aluminum pot this way to form a layer of aluminum oxide I believe on your pot. OK, there it is 1 hour to bring to a rolling boil using hot tap water /3 gas burners at medium high/high, at least 11 gallons in the pot. I probably could have got there faster but didn't want to run all the burners balls to the wall. Now off to the LBS tomorrow to see what they want for grain and DME (found some great sites to get grain and DME at sweet prices). If I was able to help anyone here on a budget to get a big brewpot on the cheap, I'm happy!

Pot is conditioned, pretty dark, more than I expected. I'm adding a pic so you can see, funny thing you can see me and the wife taking the pic in the bottom of the pot.

Wow, hope everyone that wanted one of these pots got one at the $28.99 price, now it's $50! Plus the ship. They must have had a bunch of people here buy after I posted the deal and then jacked the price big time hoping to cash in, I frickin' hate that. Anyway it was a good deal while it lasted.

Any guesses as to how thick the sides are? Is it sturdier than the paper-thin turkey fryer Al pots?

At 50 I might still have to pick one up, and use it for my future HLT/herms. The steamer tray might work in my blichmann 15 gallon pot as a way to keep the grainbag off the heat for when I want to try a BIAB.

Yes, the construction and gauge are better than the cheap turkey fryer pots. Was well worth the money. Doing a BITB right now plenty of room for 7.5 gallons and my grain. This thing fits over 3 gas burners on my 5 burner stove.
