I haven't brewed much this summer.... So three batches ago I boiled off just a bit more than I wanted to. Then on the next batch I boiled less vigorously and got almost half a gallon too much and a low OG. Today I thought I just upped the heat a little and ended up with 1/4 gallon too little but the gravity was spot on. Oh well just a little less beer. But, it was a wheat beer and there was more trub than usual that I didn't put into the fermenter, still not a whole 1/4 gallon though.

Gotta go electric and get indoors..... Now to win the lottery.

Added:
I just dumped the trub from the kettle. It might have been the difference. Much more that I usually discard. I guess the next time I do a wheat I will have to up the recipe a bit and allow for more trub......

Are you able to strain the wort when you move it into your fermentation container? Remove any hops, proteins, etc might help with the trub loss.

I have strained before.... Found it not worth the trouble. Just have to remember the next time I do a wheat, and double mill, to add a little grain to account for a little more wort collected for preboil so I can leave some of the trub behind.

I could have dumped it into the fermenter and hope that it compacted enough to gain back the wort that I left in the kettle this time.
