My friend and I are planning to try our hand at a mostly traditional sahti as an experiment. One of the ingredients we're somewhat concerned about are the juniper twigs traditionally used. Is juniper common in the United States (specifically western PA)? Once spring rolls around, would I be able to find fresh juniper twigs with any ease? If not, does anyone know of any method for sourcing juniper twigs? If we can't get our hands on any we're going to adjust our process as needed, but we'd love to try to do things as traditional as we can.

Thanks for any assistance you can give. I'm not knowledgeable about tree species as all, so juniper could be really common as far as I know. :p

Lete guess... You saw that episode of Brewing TV also? :) Anyway... You'll have NO problem finding some anywhere in PA. Its very common in eastern USA.

Nope.. can't say I saw it. I've just been thinking about giving it a shot for a long time. Good to know I can it pretty easily in PA! Thanks.

See if you have a Whole Foods (or similar) store near by.

Thanks! I do, so I'll see if that's an option.
