B3 is phenomenal.

i got lucky getting batch 1, people are already making ridiculous offers for this one, damn

I'll admit despite the hype I think HoG b1 was merely good. I think the cognac influence actually muddied things a bit, as compared to the way it enhanced something like DwtD.

However, the apple brandy really gives b2 the extra, slightly bright layer to make it really interesting. I know it's beer nerd heresy, but "batch 2 was better!"

If you're interested, now's the time to go after it. 80 cases went out Friday at 2 per, but mules and all, you know, so there is probably more available now then there will be going forward. I only got 2 because I'm not a greedy ******* and I'm hanging onto mine, but there should be bottles out there to trade for.

On another note, I picked up a 2017? (black wax) BA Vermilion for a big share a couple weeks ago and got a big butter bomb. So disappointed.

The trade boards are pretty out of hand on BA for HoGb2. I'll take a swing at it after the storm has passed.

One of the best BWs I've ever had come from an apple brandy barrel. So, I'm curious how this turned out.

ugh. i was hoping this round would mellow out the demands for this bottle but doesn't seem to be happening. considering how time has only increased the value for b1, i'm not hopeful for b2.

Random Barleywine Thoughts: I've had lots of barleywines, including some of the more "whaley" ones (some of them admittedly past their prime), but I think that either Xyauyu Etichetta Oro or Xyauyu Barrel is probably the best barleywine I've ever had. Wish I could get my hands on some of the other variants. The Xyauyu series gets some cult love, but not the love it deserves. What other barleywines can you recork and continue to enjoy for weeks?

TL; DR: send me your Xyauyus.

Are there any Barleywines that can you can recork ans that lasts for weeks, that still qualify as beer? My longest recork that was still drinkable was somewhere near 2-3 days. And even then it was getrimg pretty flat.

Tl;dr I'll keep an eye out for more Xyzxyz BW's for ya!

Did anyone else ever have the older Lervig Brewer's Reseve (I think 2013) BA Barleywine? The one in Maker's Mark barrels. Absolute top notch beer that never gets mentioned anywhere. Only have 2 bottles left of the 7-8 I ended up buying immediately after trying it. Not sure how the recent vintages compare but that year it was amazing.

Its been 30 pages of discussion since I last posted in here.

I just came back from a week vacation to find my cellar had a foot of water in it due to us getting 16 inches of rain in less than 72 hours. Im cleaning house and removing everything out of the cellar. In doing so, I was able to snap this picture with my work bench in my garage being my new temporary holding space for my beer.

Man, this brings back the memories. From a time before barleywine was life... and instead just a means of drunkenness with the quickness.

Ive lived in this house for a decade and there was only 1 other time where we took on water at a rate quicker than the sump pump was able to handle. I was home when the water was rising that time and remember moving all the gratitudes to higher ground because I knew what water damage would do to their packaging.

This is crazy good. My local packy has three Xyauyu variants. Guess I’m gonna have to try them all. Sad face on the price tag, but it is what it is.

They also have a few of the Terre Riserva Teo Musso bottles, but those don’t seem to fare as well as the the Xyauyus. Any thoughts or opinions from experience?

I've only had the Etichetta Oro, Etichetta Argento and the Barrel, never had the Terre Riserva. I know the Xyauyus are pricey, but at least you don't have to drink the whole thing at once - I usually try to get 3 or 4 drinks out of them.

dontdrinkbeer is a Baladin barleywine connoisseur and could probably provide some insight on the Terre Riserva.

Also GPIUFMB.
