Yep, it's that time of the year again. Well, where I am it's still in the upper 80's but we all love stouts so much that November gets you thirsty for one am I right?
Anyway, I recently had a friend remind me of those Guinness Surgers. Remember these? They sold the Guinness Draught cans w/o the widget and a very expensive machine to make it as if it came right out of a pub in Ireland. So I'm thinking, will it replace an expensive nitro system?

Seems so. Why won't someone just reproduce these and make a killing?

This comment made me laugh: "Is the key the 1/2 tspn of priming sugar?" Uh? Yeah, your shooting staight yeast in there and it's eating it in just a few seconds.

Sooo, it just vibrates the glass at an ultra high frequency?

If there's not already nitrogen in the beer, it's not going to magically add it by tapping that little button. It just drives gas out of solution and foams up some head.

I'll skip the fancy machine and stick to swirling my glass, thanks.

you're probably wrong. it's a magic stoutseason365 button.

Obviously this uses the Coriolis effect. Charlatans on the internet selling you an expensive device you can replicate for free with your toilet.

I don't know if you've ever been in England, or Ireland for the matter, but they do not serve beer with a large head. They are filled close to the rim with beer. "You pay for a pint, you get a pint" has been the motto for as long as I remember. And yes, they have gradually moved on to using oversize pint glasses or marked ones to allow a little more foam.

Knocking all the gas out of a glass of beer may look spectacular, but does nothing for mouthfeel or sense of aroma, it actually decreases it.
