My wife is in the hospital having had a triple bypass last Monday. She is doing better and will be coming home in a day or two. For those of you who don't know anyone who has gone through this it is godawful, she looks like the victim of a horrendous assault.

Today when I was on the way in to see her a little old lady got on the elevator with me. Her husband also had a triple bypass recently and shortly afterwards he had a stroke.

Sorry to hear that, my mom had to get a valve replaced and my wife had a lumpectomy. It really gives a person perspective. These days we have are precious and even when we feel bad or are having a hard time, it is still precious. My mom is doing better than ever. Even though medical treatment can seem brutal, I’m glad that she is still around. Make sure you take care of yourself. You’ll be no good to your wife if you don’t take those little moments to get something to eat and rest your mind.

I'm sorry to hear you two are going through this. Don't dwell on the little old lady's story, her husband's case may have had complicating factors.

My father in law had triple bypass in 1982, at age 58. He lived another 20 years--a very active life, doing just about anything he wanted to. He would have lived much longer, were it not for pulmonary fibrosis, which had no connection to his bypass. His heart was strong until the end.

Here's to your wife's speedy recovery and to a long and enjoyable life.

I will. Even as bad as she feels she still worries about me even though I tell her to not do so. Habits developed over 31 years are hard to break.

I'll drink to that, thank you.

Best wishes to your wife for a quick recovery.
I'm amazed at what medicine can do, safely and quickly. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Thank you. I was just telling her that in a couple of months she'll feel so much better that it will be amazing; not 100% over it but WAY better than now.

Godspeed, mate. It's true - it can always be worse. Whenever something goes wrong, I look outside and see people with no money, no job, no house, no food, sleeping under cardboard boxes next to the road under every little overhang to keep them dry. Then I drive to the house I rent, look at the abundance of luxuries (like a cheap brew kit) and tell myself "man, I have it GOOD".

The advances made in bypass surgery have been amazing.
What you're going through sucks, but she will bounce back quickly.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Thank you. And her surgeon, Doctor Ott, is one of the best around.
