My kit is a canned lme but came with a bag of crushed grain. Is this a partial mash and can I follow partial mash instruction. The kit instructions stink and have no info on sparging and whatnot

It depends on what types of grains are in the bag. Does it list the grains at all? I would guess if it's an extract kit then those are steeping grains, but that's just a guess.

If they are steeping grains then you bring a gallon of water to about 160F, turn off the heat, put the grain inside a steeping bag and put them in the hot water for about 30 minutes with the lid on the pot. Pick the grain bag up after 30 minutes and let it drain over the pot (don't squeeze the bag) until it starts to drip once every couple of seconds and then discard the drain. Add more water to get to your boiling volume and brew away.

What if I were to skip the grain and just brew the lme? I'll get more info on grain and ingredients. I have the screen bag and a bag of crushed barely 60L

If its a kit, its almost assuredly extract w/ steeping grains. I'll assume your kit came with 2 cans of LME. Therefore, follow the directions in NorCal's post and you will be fine. No need to sparge, no need to maintain strict steeping temp controls.

yea about half of my extract batches had grains. its not partial mash cuz you are not mashing anything. those grains in the kit are for steeping and it probably came with a grain/ steeping bag.

where did the kit come from, online or a LHBS. if its online post a link so we can see all the ingredients hopefully. but if not just steep the grains like you would a tea bag for about 20 minutes or while you are waiting for your kettle to come to a boil and then just throw them away. do not squeeze them though. just place them in a strainer for a few minutes and let whatever water falls out fall out when they are done.

What does steeping add. Isn't it just more barely which is already in the extract
