I was rushing when i pitched my starter and as soon as I did I realized I forgot to take a OG reading. So immediately grabbed the thief and took the reading, but how accurate is it with a yeast starter in it? Does that affect gravity or is it only that once you pitch yeast your gravity begins to decline that it makes for a bad reading?

Provided you didn't a) make a HUGE starter and b) pitch the WHOLE thing, your gravity shouldn't differ pre to post pitch.

Actually, it should be more accurate, final ABV wise. Not as accurate with respect to efficiency and boil-off determination though.

I did pitch the entire starter, and it was about 1.5 liters. It's a high gravity brew and the OG was 1.090.
