Is brewing two smaller batches the equivalent of brewing one big one?

I've been doing no boil kits so far and have not had to use big brewpots. I have two pots that are almost 3 gallons, but I need more volume for a 5 gallon batch of the 15 minute cascade pale ale.

If I make two smaller batches with proportionally less grains and hops, can I combine the two in my fermentor and get an equivalent wort? Do I need to adjust my recipe for smaller volumes besides simply dividing each pot by two?

I know I will need to get my hands on a large brewpot sooner or later, but can I get away with doing this maneuver once or twice before I get around to it?
