I have the following hops for an IPA. what type of schedule would you guys use?
1oz Warrior
1oz Falconers Flight
2oz Centennial
2oz Citra

i was thinking bitter with warrior, then sorta mix n match an oz every 10 mins from 30mins on down to flame out. and save an ounce for a dry hop(either citra or falconers flight or 1/2 each).

i have the following malt/grains
6 lbs of LME (extra light)
3 lbs DME (extra light)
1 lb of Crystal 60L
1/2 lb of Special Roast
1/2 lb of Honey Malt
I usually use 1lb of aromatic malt and no special roast and no honey malt but that is what i have available. ive never used honey malt before either, should i axe either of those? i have more crystal laying around but i figure a lb is plenty.

5 gallon batch

Looks like some good IPA ingredients! Depending on the AA%, here's what my personal hop schedule would be:

1oz. Warrior - 60 Min.
1oz. Centennial - 15 Min.
1oz. Citra / 1oz. Centennial - 0 Min.
1oz. Citra / 1oz. Falconers - Dry Hop

If the AA% on your Warrior is low, perhaps up the 1oz. Centennial to a 20-30 minute addition to make sure you're getting enough IBUs. Then, depending on your IBUs, I would use all of your extract. 1lb. of Crystal 60L is good, but could even go with less than that (10-12oz.)

I might go with 8oz. Crystal 60L and 8oz. Honey Malt. I like honey malt in Pales and IPAs, but others might recommend a simpler recipe.

Hope this helps. If you don't have BeerSmith or Promash and would like me to calculate your IBUs for you don't hesitate to ask...cheers!

so would you not use the special roast? i had it leftover from a pumpkin beer i brewed 2 weeks ago. i just took a sample it tastes great but after thinking about it i like my IPAs hoppy, a little malty/sweet but not roasty. might save it for a brown ale or porter.
the hops(from hopunion) are:
Warrior - 16%
Centennial - 8.7%
Citra - 14.1%
FF - 11.4%

I'd pass on the special roast myself. I think it'll serve you better in a brown or porter for sure...

For the hops - if you'd like the IPA to come out around 70-75 IBUs add the Centennial at 15 minutes. If you add 1oz. Centennial for 10 minutes, you'll come out around 62-67 IBUs. This is assuming you use your Warrior at 60 minutes. The 60 minute addition of Warrior gets you to right around 55 IBUs.

Hopefully this helps, and good luck with the recipe! Let us know how that turns out for you...

Cheers,
Matt

I'd axe the special roast and cut out or cut way back the honey malt. I get tangy out of Special Roast, and it doesn't take much for me to pick up the honey flavor from Honey Malt

brewed it up last week. aging it in the secondary for 2 months. and will dry hop it with an ounce of Citra. didnt use any honey malt either as it was not milled and i didnt feel like doing that. so went only with the crystal. ive brewed before with only crystal and it turned out decent. woulda been nice to have another grain in there but oh well. ill post results in a few months when its ready.

Just out of curiosity, why are you aging it in a secondary for two months? Is there something wrong with it, or are you oaking it or something? Inquiring minds want to know! it seems very unusual to age an IPA for a couple of months, as much of the hops flavor and aroma will fade out of it. I'm usually drinking my IPAs at about 3-4 weeks old.

You can use honey malt, without any problems, if you want to.

I live out of the US most of the year and i will be back again September. so its sitting at a friends house in a secondary and he'll be dry hopping and bottling it in August, hopefully that will alleviate some of the hop loss.
An IPA may have not been the best choice, but all of my homebrews i have back in the US aging in bottles are bigger, maltier beers. and i wanted to have a variety for when i come back.

On my last IPA using citra, it was best between month 2-3. altho i used some to bitter and it was harsh from week 3-7.
this time i went:
60 min - Warrior 1 oz
20 min - Centennial 1oz
15 min - Citra 1oz
10 min - Falconers Flight 1oz
5 min - Centennial 1oz
dry hop - Citra 1oz
