Indoor Boiling Alternatives

I have a 32L kettle (as pictured below) that sits over two gas rings. I can get to a rolling boil on my stove but it takes ages and you need to have the lid partly on if you want the boil to be vigorous.

Are there any alternatives to a propane burner that you can use indoors? I live in the North of England and the whether is gish (rubbish) at the best of times.

I couldn't use one of those propane burners indoors with the windows and door open, could I?!

No propane burners indoors !
I am also in England, I have a kettle like yours just a bit bigger, and have two 2.4kw elements in it, works great, two element to get it up, then one to maintain the boil.

I used to do propane outside and topped it up with a heat stick, was a pita compared to the the electric two elements.

Insulate the outside of your kettle and get a heat stick...good luck

Buy one of these and use it in addition to your stove top. You'll be boiling in not time!

Good idea, but be carefull with the heater suggested by Texuswine I bought similar, it came from China, it had no earth , the cables got very hot, and it had a recommendation that is must not be used in metal containers.
I used it , it worked great, but I deemed it not to be safe.

Fartinmartin, where did you buy your heat stick from? When I search online I just seem to get American website results.

I used it , it worked great, but I deemed it not to be safe.

Mine has an earth/ground. There were no warnings about using it in a metal pot. No matter what I put it in, I would always plug it in to a GFCI outlet.

You'll see some of my shenanigans on there too. I tried to run the heater with an STC 1000 temp controller I built. That was a mistake.

Niclawmusic - I really do suggest you do it right, get that lovely pot drill to accept a good element or two and keep it safe. Don't forget that the amount of steam and vapor is considerable indoors.
