First of, I got really confused with the whole NO BOOZE in grocery stores deal... but after finding my first "Liquor Store," I proceeded to get myself a six pack of La fin du Monde in the .341L bottles.

I have to say that it does taste a bit different here.

The fist pour was crystal clear, but after giving the yeasties a swirl I got a nice yeast taste!

I guess I never see the smaller bottles of LFDM at home in CA.

Cheers

Yes Canada is very strict on where booze can be sold. Some provinces allow private owners but must have it in seperate stores. Alberta will have a grocery store sell the booze, but you have to go out the main store, walk ten feet and go into the liquor store. Manitoba has liquor stores and beer vendors, al government controlled, so it is basically the same everywhere you go. We (Manitoba) get a very good selection, at a great price, of overseas stuff, but VERY little from the US, and I have made the mistake of going down to the US and picking up one of everything, and now I have to make trips down there to restock.

One of my favorite beers, I would love to go to Canada to try it out there. I imagine every import is better in it's own country.

Not sure if you're big on whiskey, but Crown Royal is fu*king awesome in Canada. The sh*t we get in the States is nothing.

In Delaware you don't find liquor or beer in grocery stores either. You have to go to the Liquor Store.. Not complaining though.. At least we dont't have a limit on ABV like some states.

+1

Washington State is the same way. Liquor is only sold through State-run stores. Not as big of a deal as you might think as the stores are all over the place. It's also nice that our grocery stores can carry a 20%ABV beer. I was "trapped" in Oklahoma once with only 3% BMC for company!

Unibroue's beers taste pretty fresh around here - but they don't have to travel far, I could throw a rock and hit Canada. There was a tasting of Unibroue beers at a local bar with a company rep just last week. I love their Éphémère! :D

Funny you Americans praise Crown so much. I think it is OK, but have several others that I would grab over CR. Gibsons any day, Forty Creek is excelent, Knob Creek. A few others, then CR.
Funny story about CR, it is distilled a few hours north of me, cocentrated, and shipped by railcar down to the US and bottled. The cars coming back are often not sealed, so the enterprising farmers at the border would go and fill up their jugs when the cars are being transfered. MOST know that it needs to be cut again to make it drinkable, but I know several that forgot to do this, and they sure appreciate their eyesight when it comes back a day later.:drunk::cross::eek:

Hey Hambone, Like Lurker18 I am also from Manitoba and all of the Crown Royal consumed in the world is made at a distillery here by a small town called Gimli. Just thought I'd tell ya that as I am also a big fan of CR.

Living is MB is disappointing for even thinking beer variety, damn socialist government should quit the babysitting role and just stick to trying to fix the roads.

Yes it is. The gm for this distillery was on a local tv show last winter and yes, he said all the Crown Royal is made at his distillery. Hard to believe but true. And yes Chickensoop living in Manitoba sux big time. Even Saskatchewan has a better variety of brewpubs and such.
