I hit my head earlier today. I didn't get knocked out, but wow- I swear I literally "rang my bell" and "saw stars"! I still have a few cobwebs in there, along with a headache, but I feel much better now.

I was told by my teammates that I got hit hard and fell backwards directly on my head. I was also told that I kept yelling, "You hit my ****ing head! You hit my ****ing head!" The good news was that I did poke check the puck away before she hit me.

Once I feel better, I'm going to have a beer. I'm sure that will help ease the headache.

If it's not better in a day or two, I'll get checked out by my doc, so don't worry! I just can't believe how weird I felt afterward. Has that ever happened to you?

Welcome to the concussion club!

No seriously, that sucks. Glad you're feeling alright, if not perfect. I've had two concussions in my life, both of which caused me to get sick. It is definitely a feeling I didn't enjoy. That beer will fix you right up! :mug:

So how many fingers am I holding up?

I'd suggest going to the doc as soon as possible. Not remembering immediately after a blow to the head is one of the symptoms of a concussion. Unfortunately most docs will tell you not to drink alcohol until 48 hours after a head injury.

I'm a (retired) paramedic. If I get any further symptoms, I'll run right in I promise. I don't have any nausea or vomiting, but I just don't feel good. Not too bad, but just not back to normal yet.

I know some of you have met me, and I think you'll appreciate this- one of my teammates said, "You weren't knocked out. You never stopped talking!"

Yaaaaa, I'm going to have to mimic what Deadalive said. I've had more close calls with concussions than most people will see and I've actualy had a few as well. GO DIRECTLY TO THE DOCTOR. Do not pass go, do not collect a free 6 pack.

Concussions and related head injuries can cause some serious damage and even death if not treated right away. It's going to suck getting an emergancy room bill but death sucks even more (depending on who you ask).

Alright, who else is in Michigan that can go by Yooper's house and drag her ass to the ER?
Didn't know Yooper was a chick. :drunk:

show's how well i pay attention.

To add to the issues...
I do billing for doctors. I know how the stuff is expensive. Don't go to the ER, go to your primary care doctor. It'll be cheaper in the long run and you get top notch service. :rockin:

That's what the urgent care clinic is for. Late hours, but won't cost $bank. As far as I'm concerned, unless there's arterial bleeding, a bone sticking out of it, or unbearable pain, I'll skip the ER, thanks.*

Yoop, hope hubby is at least keeping a close eye on you. I've had my bell rung a few times without ER trips, and I'm still *twitch* *twitch* OK. If you are concussed, Yooper, the headache you have today will be a fond memory compared to the one you'll have tomorrow.

*My one ER visit as an adult was from renal colic thanks to kidney stones that were COMPLETELY blocking one kidney. Yeah, that's ER territory.

That poor ice:cross: I'm sure it's fine. Not too shabby considering the object that struck it.:D

Next time, instead of a poke check, I'm sure the gal will get a cross-check. :rockin:

Hope you're doing o.k.:mug:

Oooh! I've had my share! And, like you, Yoop, I had no interest in going to the ER. Still don't, actually, maybe even have a poorer attitude about it since med school...:D

I do mimic what others have said, though...better safe than sorry. IF you decide not to go, then have hubby wake you up frequently and check your orientation (NOT sexual orientation, you pervs--and I KNOW that's what you're thinking...orientation to time/place/person/situation...Geez, grow up! :D). Give him a flashlight and have him check your pupils, too. Might want to have a drill handy? Or would that be going too far?

Funny story: once I got struck by lightning coming through the sink and it knocked me out. I woke up to the dog licking my face... no doubt taste-testing in case I had joined the choir invisible and he might get a meal or two outta me...anyway, I was home alone and in no shape to drive, plus it was one HELL of a storm, with 100+mph winds registered at a local airport. El Hubbo was out of town, so I was home alone. I had to devise my own neuro check, writing down the answers and checking my pupils in the mirror with a flashlight. (Fat lotta good it would have done, me, right? What the heck was I going to do about it if symptoms did present?)

It was a fun evening, but I agree with the earlier statement..the next morning was far, far worse. Go ahead and consider calling in for a sick day. Oh, and for God's sake, milk it. I'd say this would be worth a massage (or more!) out of your hubby.

Yoopers a good guy, for a girl. ;)

Thanks for all of your support..................................:D
That girl was big, fast, and strong. Over 6 feet tall and I bet 200 pounds. Skated fast for such a big chick. I forgot to mention that after I fell to the ice, I kept going so I got boarded, too. My husband only saw me go into the boards, so he was surprised to see play stop and me eventually stagger up under my own power. We play that team again on Jan 23- I'll be sure to cross check her and then skate as fast as I can.

I'm fine! I probably won't even need a sick day tomorrow, but I can work 1/2 day if I want to. I'm feeling much better now, and my pupils are PEERL. No worries!

I always preferred the cross check. A slash is kinda chicken shvt.

Yeah, so is hooking. I play defense, and once time my defense partner got a penalty for hooking. She was offended, because she wasn't trying to hook the player. She claimed that penalty was bogus because she was actually trying to trip her! She thought she shouldn't have been called for hooking when it was so obviously a trip. So, the little hooker went off to the penalty box, still complaining the whole way there.

I was laughing so hard that I could hardly stand on my skates.

hockey players ftw! tuff sons of *******... :mug:

i brained myself yesterday breaking the ice damn up off my front porch. the perfect chunk came flying off and pinged me above my left temple. boing... wow, it still smarts. ;)

Just twice! Once 8 years ago wrapping a pallet of stair parts back up to send back to the manufacturer with a 3' roll of plastic wrap and when it was wrapped up enough I tried the pull sideways to let it tear, well that was a struggle and i put a little more effort into it then i wanted to when it finally tore I smacked myself good right at the bridge of the nose and saw the stars like you and fell to the floor, very close to getting knocked out. To top that, mid last year I was working and my buddy made a cut on the side of me with a chop saw and a oak 2"x4"x2" chunk shot out and pegged me right in the side of the temple and did knock me out! I also got 8 stitches from that and even a tetanus shot. I had a lump and a really nice shiner for a week and a half!

Damn yoops, your team kicks arse. I've tossed a comment or two at a zerba, but never for giving me the wrong penalty...

I started reading this and immediately thought about my hockey days ... then I got to the part about how it happened .... yeah I've been there. I'm a goalie, so it was usually a 100mph slap shot that got me, or the occasional bump on the crossbar on the way down .... but never had it so bad I had to leave the ice.
