Hi all, first post so be gentle.

Had a bit of a brain fart, I got myself a corny keg and for some reason I decided to pay as little attention when presurising it as I could.

I connected the gas line to the beer out poppet, pressurised and gave a good shake for 10 minutes like you would normally, I only noticed my mistake when I disconnected to move in to storage and a load of beer went every where.

Will this be a major problem when it comes to serving or does it not really matter too much? I've ensured the wife it won't go nuclear or anything - she glared at me.

you're fine, some people do it on purpose, saying it will carb faster that way.
I don't think you're officially a homebrewer if you haven't had a bunch of beer go everywhere!

It won't hurt the beer. Some folks intentionally carb through the beer diptube because they think it works faster. What do you mean beer went everywhere, was the poppet leaking? Or you mean it backed up into your regulator. That's probably the biggest risk doing that if you don't have check valves.

edit: slow typing today

You should be fine. All you did was pump the CO2 in down at the bottom of the keg rather than at the top. If you were rolling it on its side to force carb then you really did nothing different. It will all dissolve evenly either way.

Haha, I accidentally did the same thing yesterday. I have been kegging for quite some time and this was the first time that happened. I knew I did it when i heard the beer bubbling like crazy. I turned off the gas and released the pressure in the keg. I had to pry off the connector since it wasn't meant to be on the outlet.

This won't ruin your beer, it just may cause whatever settled to the bottom of the keg to be in suspension again. Cold crash it a bit and you should be good to go.

When I first put a beer into a Keg, I force CO2 through both

Pushing CO2 in the out door, it bubbles up through the beer, no worries
and adding CO2 at the top

just trying to push as much Oxygen out as possible

Part of my procedure.
