As of late my house has mice. Talked with some neighbors and they do too. My wife bought some sticky traps which I set this morning. Five mice trapped just this day. I hate those damm traps. Cruel things. I put the stuck mice under the wheel of my car and ran them over. I'm truly pissed at myself. Never ever again I told my wife - never buy those effing live traps again!!

I'll stick with the old fashioned one. At least they break the mouse's neck and all is over. Plus, if the mouse is clever enough he can eat the bait without getting his neck snapped. Good for him! Or her

I forget what they are called but we used to use these blue mouse poison blocks. Doesn't kill them right away and it gives them a chance to take it back to the nest and share with their friends. They work. Every time we got mice we would put them out and within a week or two, no more mice. Not sure how humane they were but we never found any carcasses or smelled them decaying either. I'm guessing that was because the nest was outside of the house but who knows.

edit:

I think these were it although we never bought a whole bucket, just a small box.

Sounds very effective. But I'm afraid to use something like that; collateral damage. I.e. Cats, dogs. My tenant had rat problems and set out poison. Ended up killing some rats plus his neighbor's cat! Oops.

I know mice carry a disease which the name eludes me at the moment, and I realize they need eradicated. I'm just not the guy to do it.

Yeah you do have to be careful where you put them. We usually knew where the mouse traffic was and put it in their path in areas that would only affect them.

I remember reading that the Hentavirus really only affects areas that pine nuts grow in abundance for some reason. Mice are surprisingly clean for rodents. The biggest issues they really present are getting into your food and occasionally they chew on your electrical wiring. My parents have heavy mice traffic where they live and have given up. My mom just says live and let live and they have for years now and no real issues to speak of. I guess you could always get a cat, lol.

The problem with all rodents is that they cant control their... erm.. selves. They are always doing #1 and #2. The biggest issue with the poison for rodents is that they are essentially overdosing them with blood thinners. This causes them to bleed out. Problem is if a dumb dog or a cat eats the contaminated mouse. I stick with the snap traps. If not that you can get the more humane live traps that spin and contain them and then you can release them outside so they can sneak back in and keep up the game of hide and seek with you.

One of my other distractions:

I started a Facebook page for a small town that was leveled during the creation of the BWCA (Boundary Waters Canoe Area)

Forest Center

Any canoe-ers or hikers? It's my understanding that The Pow Wow trail runs through there.

The Pagami fir really messed it up though.

I didn't understand what you meant. I see that they must have shut down the town and leveled the buildings when they turned it into a wilderness area. Interesting.

I went on canoe trips to the BWCA two summers in a row back in the early seventies. Went with my father and my uncle and a group from his church. Each trip was a couple weeks long. We packed everything in and out and portaged between lakes. It was a great time and a great experience.

Forest Center was a Logging town of about 150 people from what I can gather. We moved from there when I was very young. They flattened it the next year and returned it to nature - roughly 1964.

There are still a few people who remember it. The locals all know where it was.

Evidently you have to erase as much civilization as you can, even road names. There was a road up there named after my father who layed out a lot of the logging roads. They changed it to a number. ....progress.

Cough, cough, Cough!
I'm sick today ;)
Called my boss
I can't play
Of course you know and he does too
It's a roost, a lie, that we sometimes do
Instead of going to work for the man
In my soul there is another plan
Say what?! I should brew?
You read my thought you genius crew

I haven't brewed in three long years
But today will make a keg of cheers
Mash temps good, some spilled unmilled grain.
This brewing thing -
It's a lifetime game
[emoji3]

It's messy my brew day truly is
I surly hope I know my biz
Biggest threat is not O2 or mash temp
Tween those two I'm exempt
More is in wondering how
To keep the yeast cool now
I got no temp controlled fermenter around use to be that did abound
This ain't like the old days when I had the stuff
Truly now I'm a wind of puff

Hot liquor tun in the pic. Mash tun is a ten gallon round iglo cooler sitting to my left which you don't see. Brew kettle is a keggle, standard 1/2 keg with home brewer additions, also not in the picture

Haphazard brewery I should rename this instead of, Lakewood Brewery, 93230

Nah! [emoji9]

Always put your wooden mash peddle up on your brew pot . No boil overs. I can't explain why. But it works

Truth be known. I measured grain, good base. Dumped an ounce of Perle at boil, ounce of magnum a little later. That could be vice versa I'm not sure

My timer is not working well. Ongoing to dump an ounce, maybe two of cascade once I turn off the fire

Time will tell

I need to add. The mash paddle although might look like a stick
Is four foot long and a half inch of red oak thick
The mash tun fun was purely a joy
On the floor of the tub there was a false bottom toy
It was one Jaybird's stainless steel things
With "Cheers" etched in which gave it bling
But fancy aside this was a great tool
Quite honestly a brewer's jewel
So if I learned one thing of my brew day
Sometimes you got to get messy and play in the hay

Another goofy rhyme from Dan

G'morning guys. Been a while since I've had the free time at work to joy around on the forums. I'm still short two medics and having to ride the truck. Ugggg

On a better brewing note. I have a Kolsch that will soon be ready to keg. Up next is a SA Summer Ale and a Gaarden Hoe. As soon as I get the stir plate freed up, I have a Pale Ale from NB that I'll brew.

I'm planning a night of mud bugs -n- music perhaps in May. I typically do this once a year but had to skip out last year since the house was about to sell. Now that's behind me, it's time to fire up the cookers.

If all goes well I'll have plenty of HB to help chase down the bugs.

1. Belgian Wit (done)
2. Kolsch (done)
3. Irish Blond (done)
4. Luckiest Man Pale Ale with the experimental hops. NB (up next)
5. SA Summer Ale (up next)
6. Garrden Hoe (up next)

Future brews

7. Fat Tire
8. Hard Cherry Limeaide.
9. Blue Moon
10. Yuengling (new to me)
11. Cream of three crops.
12. Augustiner Lagerbier Helles from HBT (new to me)

Usually I'll brew for a year to prepare for the next year, but with the house hindering me last year, I'm really behind. Not sure that I'll be able to pull these off without buying some kegs as there will not be enough time to bottle condition so I've got to sit down and think about what path to take.

Bigken sounds like you've been busy! Pipeline in full force and moving onward!

I'm looking forward to a recent purchase. A 40tooth framing circular saw blade and 60t trim blade. Both from Dewalt, their latest line. They're easy to distinguish between their less costly blades - no yellow stop across the edge on the less expensive blades - plus a price difference but it's not outrageous.

I realize Dewalt name could be hype but most of my power tools are them and I'm very happy with their performance and ruggedness. Also bought a rip fence for my circular from Rockler. It had great reviews. I'm cheap in some ways. I always read reviews on tools I buy, name isn't everything to me. It's a recommendation. Reviews, if I trust are a good way to get what you think you're getting

I'm far outside, well not completely outside, but haven't been doing the Trades' jobs as a professional all my life. Some of the guys I work with now have been. Tell ya what. Watching some of these guys in action, adept in their carpentry. They are amazing! I'm not a terrible carpenter but these guys will do in a few hours what it will take me a day to do.

This new job I have is great! In 9 months I've only had to sit behind a computer once. It was for some CBT. I didn't even have a log in for the computer. My boss had to log in to her account and check me in Ha! Love it!

Good morning guys. Just gettin started this morning. About to fire up the burners an get started. Coffee, poptarts and a freezing cold garage. But it'll soon warm up.

I always pre measure all my water additions the night before, so those are set out waiting to be poured in. Grains all milled up. Brewhouse is at the ready..........And me? I could easily just go back to bed, but it'll be darkthirty tonight before I get done with these if I don't suck it up and get started.

Kegged a Kolsch last night. Man it was pretty. Doubtful there will be any of this left before the cook out. May as well order me another batch and do it again. lol

Mr. Dan, I was going to add also that I was blessed to have inherited a full shop of wood working tools from my Grandfather when is passed away in 87. He started purchasing these tools when I was about 10 years old - most used at the time. Today, some 35 years later, every single item he purchased back then is still being used today.

All of these are the old type Craftsman woodworking tools. The only thing not metal on any of them is the belt and the on/off switch. Best tools on the market back then..........Moving forward a few years to today, now, I wouldn't be caught dead holding their plastic poor made junk.

Hope you get good use out of your stuff. Are you building a wood working shop?

Have a great weekend everyone!

I just bought a Craftsman 60t circular blade for some maple flooring I did last week. Precision baby!

I'm replacing all the doors inside my house. Spent the day today routing hinge mortises & latch plates, and drilling doorknob holes, painting. Slab doors are so cheap. I found some really nice 2-panel eyebrow doors. BTW, if you need a jig for this, I highly recommend the Woodhaven jigs on amazon. I've done lots of doors with butt plate and hammer and chisel, but routing with a decent jig is so, so much better.
