I harvested the yeast from the ginger cider I'm going to try to turn into vinegar. It's montrachet, and the cleanest yeast I've ever seen. Pure yeast butter in the bottom of the bucket.
I'm trying the other new chip flavor I got at the same time as the chicken and waffles. It's cheesy garlic bread. Now this is a good flavor for chips.

It's easy to afford stuff when you have no kids to support!
I DID daytrade up until 2007 when I was in B-school for finance until I really grasped what a sucker's game it is for people who aren't insiders. I've been much more successful buying (or shorting) stocks fairly infrequently when I feel that I have a bit of expertise giving me an edge over the majority of potential players. Recognizing the potential of the very first iPhone when it was only first announced and nobody yet had experience with it, for instance. And then holding (most of it) long term until I no longer felt secure in it, eg when Jobs died.
It's way less work than daytrading, WAY less stressful, and WAY-ER LESS-ER bull****. And I do better. Only way I'd ever do anything like that again would be if I were an insider in a major industry.

Okay, I'm up to late tonight. Had some beer. It wasn't homebrew unfortunately.
Ive found a new love. Red Delicious apples! And bananas.
An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Im trying to live that theory along with a good cardiovasculat work out daily.
I will fail this occasionaly, it's a goal.

Its funny, the difference in tone and accent that I read your posts in with the change in avatar.
I know this nut case whose already spent 7k buying stuff for an electric brew setup and he hasn't even started actually building it yet.
And of course the flip side is also true.
Interesting, isn't vanilla extract usually made with a neutral spirit like vodka? How dominant is the vanilla flavor in rum?
I've got some Sailor Jerry spiced rum on hand now. I've also got a bottle of everclear I usually use for making extracts.... You know, that really makes me wonder how it would come out with other flavored spirits. Like say whiskey. I just might have to pick a few things up once I get the beans and do several side by side.

Man what a month and I bet it has been that long since I was here I just wish people would plan ahead and buy their wood all summer long instead of the last bit of summer. But I think I got a couple of days off now and will brew again. I found out that one should not brew if working to many hours since little things like priming sugar get forgot

The flavor of the dark rum compliments it nicely I thought, but you're correct, it's usually a flavorless spirit used.
Vodka. If you think you're going to use it in something like vanilla ice cream (!), I wouldn't use rum or anything else.

Actually, I think I'd like the Rum/Vanilla mixture in vanilla ice cream. I think I'm going to go for the best of both worlds and make extract from vodka and rum.
BB, after a few months did you strain out the vanilla beans, or just leave them in there?

Yep. I went around getting soil samples that I am going to send away for results. The extension office place will only accept 2 or 3 samples at a time. Like pulling teeth trying to get more than one packet. Then, start planting things that will grow year round, year after year. Going to base it on what's already there, minimal amendments needed. We have blueberries growing wild now but burned that area a couple years ago, the blueberries are coming back, but slowly. Also planted banana trees 3 years ago, it'll be a couple more years before they start making. I tried getting moringa going, but no luck with it yet. Also planted various other fruit trees a few years back around the property, waiting to see how they do before planting more.
I got thinking today, why is it called BIAB brewing when nothing gets boiled in a bag. Should be called MIAB. Anyway, cooler weather coming and looking forward to brewing beer again. I've been making wine type things all summer.

Welcome back. We were going to send out a search party outfitted with Mead and Homebrew to make sure you hadn't gone to the small engine shop in the sky. I use honey when I have forgotten my corn sugar.
Anyone here eat wild carrots when they were a kid? Don't know why, just thought of that. They grew all around our house when we were kids.
They've got white flowering heads that spread out about 3 inches, flat on top with white flowers. The roots are like skinny carrots.

I planted mint in my backyard, but I have no use for it, so I cut it down when I mow. What a nice scent, almost makes mowing enjoyable. My boy, who really does most of the mowing, likes it too.
I tried making mint ice cream with it (heated leaves in cream), but the mint flavor from mint leaves tasted artificial, if you can believe that. Odd.

It sure can. I like fresh mint in a drink. Though I dry a fair amount of mine and make it into tea. Spearmint oil makes better mint ice cream.

I planted mint seeds last spring. Mainly for Mojitos. They never sprouted, though. It was a cheap brand of seeds, so I guess I'm not surprised. I'll buy a better brand next spring.
