I didn't want to hijack the other brewer's thread with my own lager funk question.

I have my lagers lagering since last Saturday (day 8) at 35°. I open the freezer on occasion to make sure there's no craziness goin on in there.

Well, the last couple days, the freezer smells a little "rubbery" when I open it. Not a stench by any means, just rubbery. I know I have a while yet but since these are my first 2 lagers (1 AG and 1 extract), I wasn't sure what to expect.

Thoughts or ideas?

Thanks

My guess is the rubber smell is sulphur-related, which lagers are famous for.

Sulphur is used in rubber vulcanization, so maybe our brain associates the two.

Yeah, my first lager was so stinky and nasty smelling that I almost threw it away. But it came out great...

Even during "lagering"? That's my only mind f**k with this thing. As long as I know they stink while at 35° too, then I'm fine with it.

Thanks all.
