My hydrometer broke and my wife picked up a replacement. The only one in my local shop measures proof, (0-200), and tralle, (0-100). I believe this is the wrong type. I've ordered a replacement, but is there a way I can use this one in the mean time? Will the tralle measurement work?

No. Proof an Tralle scale numbers refer to, respectively 2 and 1 times the percentage by volume of ethanol in water solutions. Thus 40 proof vodka would register 40 on the proof scale and 20 on the Tralle scale. Ethanol in water solutions all have specific gravities less than 1 and so this hydrometer will be useless for determining OG of any or FG of most beers. Try it with some megaswill. It wont sink into the jar.

Thanks for the quick response. I guess I'll have to wait for the replacement.
