I'll be making a starter tomorrow night, and once it's ready, I'd like to save a bit of the resulting yeast. I figure an empty White Labs vial would be perfect, and I have several of them lying around. My question is, how can I sanitize/sterilize the tube and cap to make it safe to store yeast in it?

I guess I could just dunk it in StarSan, but I'd like to boil them to be really sure that they're thoroughly sanitized. Has anyone boiled the empty vials and cap before? Will this melt the plastic or compromise any sort of seal or gasket inside the cap? Would another vessel be more appropriate? What would you do?

Soaking in Starsan should be enough. I would clean the threads with a brush and cleaner first then soak in Starsan. I wouldn't boil them.

That kind of plastic wouldn't survive boiling well. I clean'em with PBW, rinse & sanitize with Starsan before storing them.

On a related note, how do you get the label glue residue off?
PBW soaks have not been successful for me.
