I know there are some math geeks here, so can someone please point me to a formula for figuring out how many volumes of CO2 will be produced for a given amount of sugar?

Example, if bottle conditioning consumes 5 gravity points at 68°F, how much carbonation will there be?

TIA

I've been working on this formula to add to an excel spreadsheet I use for fermentation tracking, but haven't finished. I'm giving pressure fermentation a try and thought it would be a handy column to have on the table. I haven't had time to digest it yet, but this is what I bookmarked when I started research the other day. I got all of my conversion forumlas done, but haven't done the co2/specific gravity point yet. If you translate this into a formula, please post it. Or hopefully someone else already has it.

Also, there is this calculator which should do what you want. Ignore the "priming method" section and just look at the table below it. You can tweak your current gravity numbers to see how much carbonation would be there at different levels. I still need to figure out the formula for this for my spreadsheet, but this works for now.

Be aware that bottling early in anticipation of the gravity dropping to some specific value can be risky. Fermentation is famous for being unpredictable. If it drops lower than you expected, you could have bottle bombs.
