Is it feasible to use the cake from a 5 gal batch primary on a new 10 gallon batch after racking the 5 gal batch to secondary? Primary for the 5 gal was going on 1 week.

Usually you want the yeast to divide 3-4 times with each fermentation. That means a 5gal cake should do at least 15-20 gallons of fresh wort.

When reusing the yeast cake, should you only use it w/ the same type of brew. Or could I use the cake from my current IPA for another brew-say a red ale or a porter?
