How long will it last in the bottle?

So I was just wondering how long my beer will last in the bottle and if style and ABV should be taken into consideration. I know bottle caps are a factor too. I have had a hard time finding good info on this.

I recently sampled a few bottles that have been in the bottle for 12 months.

There was a subtle metallic underflavor that I am chalking up to oxidation.

I've had a medium gravity beer last a couple years but by year 2 it started to taste a little stale.
